Kat Secor is one of the bestest people in Orange County. It says so in our Best of 2012 issue. She was featured because she's hella nice and sweet and will blow your head off if you get on the wrong side of her paintball gun when she captains Team Destiny, an all-female squad out of Huntington Beach.

And now you can watch her unload on maggots in person!

Team Destiny is among the 100 teams from all over the globe competing in the National Professional Paintball League's 11th annual Surf City USA Open today through Sunday at Huntington Beach Pier Plaza.

The tournament, which starts in Surf City and continues throughout North America before reaching Las Vegas, has teams of seven assassins competing in six different divisions: Professional, D1-Semi Pro, D2-Amature, D3-Rookie, D4-Novice and Young Guns.

The game is actually like capture the flag that you played in your neighborhood, only the "tag, you're dead" leaves a stain. Whoever can grab the opposing team's flag without getting shot is the winner of each heat.

Secor, whose team will be playing in Division 4, is not only a player, she's an ambassador for bringing more women into the sport. Nothing is more empowering than blasting a guy before he blasts you, she'd be the first to tell you. Oh, yeah, she already did here:

Besides the clashes on the course, the league hosts a paintball trade show showcasing supplies and equipment. There will also be shooting booths open to the public sponsored by the U.S. Army. Do too well there and you may wake up in Afghanistan!

The fun runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Sunday. The trade show and some viewing areas are free. Center court grandstand seats are $10 and VIP seats are $45. Visit www.nppl.com for more details or to score tickets. And make sure to root for the ladies.
