Sobriety Checkpoints are Set Tonight in the Beaches Newport and Long

The Newport Beach Police Department is holding a sobriety checkpoint tonight and--praise be--the cops are disclosing the location.

It's at Newport Boulevard and Finley Avenue from 8:30 p.m. through 3 a.m. Saturday.

That would put it near City Hall, councilman!

The police department's Traffic Division justifies the operation, which is paid for with state and federal grants, by citing research that shows crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.

Long Beach Police also plan a checkpoint tonight from 7 through 3 a.m. Saturday, but that location has not been specified.

@OCWeekly I know. I check. And they're always about a week old with the info.

@MatthewTCoker @OCWeekly  Not really, Matthew, you must be confusing those sites with other ones.  The information there is updated constantly, many times right after the CP's are announced.  And updated throughout the weekend nights, when most of those CP's take place.  They leave the info up there "after the fact" so people can see what took place the prior weekend.  Check it out any weekend night late and you will see.

@MatthewTCoker @OCWeekly , at least with, they put those up as soon as the OC Sheriff's or Local Law Enforcement do the press release.
