Bending Sticks: The Sculpture of Patrick Dougherty is scheduled to roll at 8 p.m. outdoors (weather permitting) on the museum grounds at 850 San Clemente Drive, Newport Beach, which is within Newport Center.
For 25 years, internationally renowned environmental artist Dougherty has been creating his monumental, site-specific sculptures out of nothing more than saplings. Co-directors Penelope Maunsell and Kenny Dalsheimer's cinematic profile follows a year of Dougherty's life as he works on commissions inside the new wing of the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh; on Main Street in Rock Hill, South Carolina; at a private home in Chapel Hill, N.C.; at the Bascom Art Center in the North Carolina mountains; and in the Dumbarton Oaks gardens in Washington, D.C.
