Saeed and partner Mohammad Masud hoped to split a $1,000 profit as a way to cushion their poor finances, according to court records.
What Saeed and Masud didn't know was that the buyers were wire-wearing, confidential informants working at the direction of a veteran Department of Homeland Security narcotics agent.
Undercover officers arrested the stunned men at the mall and a federal grand jury issued a criminal indictment.
This month inside the Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse in Santa Ana, U.S. District Court Judge Andrew J. Guilford dismissed Saeed's hope for 21 months of incarceration and sentenced the 29-year-old to serve 63 months in a federal prison, according to court records.
Saeed will undergo federal probation supervision for five years after he is released from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Masud, born in 1983, has admitted guilt in a sealed plea deal, but has not yet learned of his punishment.
