Bob Costas Beach Houses in Crystal Cove for $4.7 mil; Leave Your Gun Home When Visiting

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas, who courted controversy in December when he dared raise the issue of gun control during a halftime show a day after a NFL player's murder-suicide, has reportedly put down $4.7 million for a Crystal Cove beachfront home.

In November, former Angels pitcher John Lackey, who sat out the 2012 season with the Boston Red Sox while recovering from Tommy John surgery, listed a mansion for sale in the same guard-gated neighborhood for $10 million.

Realtor.com reports the home, which is being purchased by the veteran sportscaster and his wife, Jill, is not exactly a bungalow. It boasts four bedrooms, six bathrooms, 4,534 square feet of living space, custom light fixtures, hardwood flooring, crown molding, a gourmet kitchen, a separate guest casita and various bonus rooms.

My "guest casita" pulls out from a couch.

Casa de Costas--think "Buub Cooz-tazz" for the old SNL skit--is plopped on a private corner lot that affords "breathtaking" views, according to the website, which can be taken in from a saltwater pool and spa or the pool house or the outdoor kitchen or the bocce ball court or anywhere else on the sprawling rear lawn.

It was the Dec. 2, 2012, Sunday Night Football halftime show that included Costas commentating the U.S. gun culture contributed to Jason Jovan Belcher gunning down his 22-year-old girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, and himself, suggesting both would still be with us if the Kansas City Chief had not possessed a gun. (*Corrected: Costas had referred to Jason Whitlock's gun-culture column.)

Fortunately, the U.S. has experienced no other high-profile incidents involving firearms since Buub Cooz-tazz's monologue.

Jovan Belcher commited murder suicide, Jason Whitlock wrote the original piece regarding the gun culture that Bob Costas cited. Jovan was the football player not Jason.

@lakerfan92626 Thanks, Laker fan, I'd caught that, too, but forgot to change the first name. Oh, go Lakers!
