Adam Harrison Hall, Twice Convicted of DUI and Accused of Blazing on Meds in Fatal Crash, Faces Murder Count; Is That Right?

adam-harrison-hall_square.jpg
Trial began last week for a 29-year-old Placentia man facing a murder count for allegedly raging on methamphetamine, Diazepam, Nordiazepam, Alprazolam, Hydroxyalprazolam, Oxazepam, Temazepam, amphetamine, Morphine, and 11-nor-9-carboxy-delta-9-tetrahyrocannabinol (THCA) before causing a car crash that killed a pedestrian and injured two people in another vehicle. If Adam Harrison Hall is found guilty, he faces up to 21 years to life in prison.

He was driving north on Moulton Parkway in Laguna Niguel after 11 a.m. on Feb. 13, 2011, when he allegedly ran his Ford SUV through a red light at Nueva Vista Drive, crashing into a Toyota SUV.

Both vehicles spun out and the Toyota occupants were injured. Steven James suffered severe bruising and Anna Gaffney sustained a broken collar bone. The Ford, meanwhile, continued up the curb, onto the sidewalk and into Mara Lynnes Steves, who was walking a dog. The 48-year-old died from her injuries.

From an Orange County District Attorney's office (OCDA) statement, you can piece together an interesting timeline that contributed to prosecutors filing murder charges against Hall, who has two previous convictions for driving under the influence:

On March 3, 2008, Hall pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs (Case # 08NM02020) for an incident occurring in October 2007. He was sentenced at that time to three years of informal probation and ordered to complete a 3-month First Offender Alcohol Program and Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victim Impact Panel.

Less than two months after being sentenced for driving under the influence of drugs, Hall was again arrested for driving under the influence on May 8, 2008. Hall pleaded guilty in that case Oct. 3, 2008, to misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol (Case # 08CM08821) and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, five years of informal probation, and was ordered to complete a 180-day Drug and Alcohol Program and an 18-month Multiple Offender Alcohol Program.

[The Laguna Niguel fatal collision, you'll recall, was Feb. 13, 2011.]

On May 20, 2011, Hall is accused of calling a female acquaintance, Elizabeth Rene Parker, who worked in a doctor's office where the defendant is not a patient to request prescription drugs Hall was not prescribed to. Parker pretended to be one of her co-workers and called a CVS drugstore to order a prescription of Norco under Hall's name. Hall is accused of entering the drugstore and picking up a prescription of Norco.

On May 23, 2011, the Orange County District Attorney's Office filed charges against Hall for murder.

On May 24, 2011, Parker called a Walgreens drugstore to order a prescription of Xanax and Norco under an alias. Hall is accused of entering the drugstore and attempting to pick up the prescription but was not able to do so because he did not have proper identification.

Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested Hall at the pharmacy. Parker was popped as well. She pleaded guilty to two felony counts each of second degree burglary and obtaining a prescription by fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation and was sentenced to two years in state prison.

Hall, who the OCDA claims signed acknowledgements at the time of his DUI pleas that he could be charged with murder if he killed someone while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, now faces felony murder, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, obtaining or possessing drugs secured by a forged prescription (two counts) and forgery of prescription, with sentencing enhancements and allegations for causing bodily injury and causing great bodily injury or death to more than one victim.

He's being tried in Santa Ana.

I hope you judgemental fux, find your father dead from suicide like this kid did. Dont EVER drink and/or drive. Or any other drug. This could be you. If you have ONE DRINK and crash.... you are his equal. 2 DUI convictions or ten. If you eff up and go to prison; I hope that Adams troubled soul has the fortitude to blocade your anus from force in an ugly place like prison. At least our politicians can rob us blind and assisnate civilians without competition with the tourtured soul of Adam of our streets now. Child molestors and rapists laugh at his and the victims' circumstances. Sleep comfortably while your children pimp beer at the nearest 7-11 in your ill-gotten Mercedes, tonight... A man that has made a terrible mistake, that he can never take back, with a woman, that Im sure he'd bring back if he could; is off the streets. You Goddam keyboard crusaders.

Put him away!!! He deserves more time than a rapist or a child molsester.... even a serial murderer!!! Screw accidents. Forget being a drunk and an addict. If anyone has ever been high or drunk and didn't KILL anyone... They are cool.

GUILTY OF FELONY MURDER. Plus additional felony counts. Sentencing is set for April 5th. He'll be going away for twenty years minimum.

Justice for Mara.

Haa I don't even drink, this is about someone that like a cancer patient can function on morphine, how he could go to work like that says it all,

Accidents happen but not intended, if only one juror understands this he'll walk.

I'm a little confused.  He killed the woman in February 2011, this after being convicted of two previous DUIs in 2008, but then wasn't arrested until May 2011.  So after he was intoxicated for the third time and finally killed someone he still was out and able to go to the pharmacy in May?  Am I missing something?

Bye Adam.......I am sure you will be wearing eyeshadow and lipstick soon.......not that you don't deserve it..............

This story is ind of confusing. If he killed someone in February  while intoxicate why was he out and about in may to get a prescription for more drugs? And how did they know he was at the pharmacy and get there in time to arrest hm? There's a lot of holes in this story.

I recall Adam was on he's way to work he was in his normal state of mind, just because he had medication in his system we don't know the levels,

I'm sure at least 50% of drivers have some sort of medication levels in theirs also,

The only reason this is newsworthy is because it was a mother saving a dog by the street,

He may have had a past DUI as others also, he did not have any intent to harm or kill anyone, he is simply an untreated drug addict that needs help not prison,

I'm guessing he'll get time served , community sevice and a rehab program.

@Tommyray Youre a moron!! 50% of drivers are on Meth!? Maybe in Riverside but not in OC. Adam is a wana be peni, loser drug addict like you!! I hope I see you when youre driving with 11 drugs in your system loser. He is guilty. Camera caught him lying about his direction and he had more drugs then your Moms medicine cabinet. GUILTY.. Maybe you two can bunk together in the PC yard!!

You can't blame your stupidity on meds or alcohol, huh? You're just a natural idiot. I see.

If a cancer patient is on morphine their days are numbered (days, maybe a week or two.) And they certainly don't function.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.

Go somewhere else and spew your ignorant BS. And, learn the difference between a comma and a period. Your lack of correct basic grammar makes you look even more ignorant, if that's possible.

@949girlI'd read that as being the order of events and, sure enough, the OCDA just confirmed those dates. Hall was suspected of being DUI for the February 2011 crash and was later out of custody pending court hearings and further investigation. Reports came back showing what all was in his system (allegedly), so based on that and his priors the DA files murder charges in May '11. In the hours to process and locate him, it's the next calendar day when cops arrest him at the pharmacy. But there they discover he, allegedly, had not legitimately being prescribed the meds, which led to more counts against him and the case against the woman from the doctor's office. Make sense? Clear as mud?

The levels don't matter as long as it is active in the system. When you take that many drugs the effects multiply on one another. Credit time served? Clearly you have some meds n  your system.

You have no idea what you're talking about! A loving mother, a cherished daughter and a loyal friend was taken from this earth because of that human stain repeat offender. Mara was a vibrant, intelligent, caring woman who is dearly missed. Shame on you!!

And don't count on time served. That POS is going down for a long time. Count on it!

RIP Mara

50% really?  Where do you get  your facts?

So you think the only reason that this is 'newsworthy' is because a dog played some sort of ancillary role in the story?

I'm sure the courts won't find him an untreated drug addict- that's what the previous convictions were for.  If he doesn't get at least 10 years in the pokey, I will have lost all faith in the system.

@ocsurfgirl BTW cancer and others on this type of medications not only function they live and work among us, study up!! Now you look stupid.

Nice" I didn't know this was a gramer contest, little surfer brat, I'm sure you like most beach kids are spoiled and on drugs yourself,

As soon as someone has done something you don't like hang them right? But if it was you after one of your beach party's you'd be looking for daddy's help.

@MatthewTCoker @949girl ok makes sense, I thought he had alcohol in his system when the woman was killed and that was why I was wondering why he wasn't arrested then.

@MatthewTCoker @paullucas714 got ya. man what a situation. Prescription drugs are becoming so much worse than anything else out there.

I speak from over 25 years of experience working in hospitals and going through cancer with four family friends and three family members, Fucknut. I am a five-year survivor as well. What is your experience with cancer patients?

I'm wondering why you are trying to defend that effing loser? Are you related? That would make sense two idiots from the same gene pool.

Oh, and knowing how to use a period is second grade level english. You may want to study up yourself. Uneducated and ignorant is no way to go through life.
