ORIGINAL POST, JAN. 18, 9:22 A.M.: The Costa Mesa Police Department holds a DUI checkpoint from 8 tonight through 8 a.m. Saturday, which I believe is the longest such operation I've ever reported here.

Guess Righeimer's not only taking back pink slips, he's allowing mucho OT! I kid, I kid . . .

As per department policy, they aren't saying where in the city the stop will be.

Besides signs of boozing or drugging, officers will be looking for drivers who are unlicensed. Come on, we all know what they look like.

The operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

You're also encouraged to dial 9-1-1 if you witness a drunken driver.

UPDATE, JAN. 18, 3:22 P.M.: The Orange County Sheriff's Department announced it will conduct roving patrols tonight in Stanton and Villa Park aimed at removing impaired drivers from roads.

As regular nightly patrols are held in those cities, the special roving patrol forces will focus on areas known for DUI incidents, according to deputies.
