Ex-Orange County State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore Writes Book Celebrating Conservative Lone Star State Principles

DeVore: Don't mess with Texas
Former Orange County Republican state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore has today published a new book--"The Texas Model: Prosperity in the Lone Star State and Lessons for America"--that compares Texas government policies with other large states.

Spoiler alert: Texas has a superior climate because its politicians enact laws centered on, as the Amazon.com book summary states, "low taxes, modest government and a lawsuit climate that allows entrepreneurship to flourish while encouraging job creation."

DeVore, a longtime Irvine resident who was a budget expert while serving in the state Assembly, moved to the Austin, Texas area in 2011 after an unsuccessful attempt to become the California Republican Party's U.S. Senate nominee in 2010.

Nowadays, he is Vice President for Communications and Senior Fellow for Fiscal Policy at the conservative Texas Public Policy Foundation.

DeVore, a Department of Defense employee during the Ronald Reagan presidential administration, has also written a novel, "China Attacks."

[UPDATE 10:30 A.M.: DeVore tells me the book also should be available today on Kindle.]

What a crock of shit. I lived in Texas for 17 years before I came here and let me just tell you what Texas lacks in income tax and other stated 'taxes" they more than make up for in fees. Fees Fees Fees. Fees for this and Fees for that. In the end between higher property taxes and fees for every god damn thing under the sun it is literally no different. Only true advantages Texas has are Puffy Tacos, BBQ and a few more jobs which pay disgustingly low.

What is it with these Orange County "men of integrity" in law enforcement and politics running to Austin, Texas?  Case in point: Stan "the domestic terrorist" Knee (former Garden Grove police chief). Is it that they finally realize that OC is actually part of the USA and therefore subject to federal civil rights law (specifically 18USC241) and they fantasize that maybe Texas is really really different?

Its the capital and he is not the most conservative, Dana is more so since Dana doesn't hold Chuck's liberal guestworker ideas on immirgaiton.

ironic that the most conservative member of the oc GOP moves to the most liberal area of Texas.

@shawnmiars Including all government revenue, state and local, California takes about 37%% more as a share of the economy than does Texas. As far as pay, you have to factor in the cost of living, which is 42%% more expensive in California than in Texas. With this fact in mind, California's minimum wage, higher on paper, actually buys far less than Texas'. It's a fact.

@shawnmiars Guess that is why a number of Corporations and businesses are relocating from California to Texas.  Come on Shaw just admit it, you just couldn't hack trying to compete with Texas men and women, so you moved back to pansyland.  Give my regards to "Moonbeam."

Corruption and stupidity are qualities that can be overlooked as long as you're willing to hate the poor, gay and execute the mentally retarded.

@18usc241    Texas is different.  Some move there and like it and some move there and do not.  If push ever comes to shove, I  would rather be in Texas than California.   I knew Stan Knee long before he became a Police Chief and worked with him on mulit-jurisdiction narcotics investigation cases.  I always found Stan and his partner to be top notch professionals and good to work with.  Didn't see him after he became a Chief and sometimes that changes a person.  He did survive as Chief in Austin for a number of years, so he must have been doing something right.  As far as the Constitution goes, it is the same in Texas as in California.  The only difference is they don't coddle criminals in Texas like we do in California and even enforce the death penalty.  Yes, Texas is different.and I do miss that Blue Bell ice cream.  .

@cynthia.curran8   Cynthia I only have one question for you.  When is the last time you or any of your friends worked any of the agricultural jobs in California?  Until you have been part of the process either as a grower or a worker, you demonstrate your ignorance on how the system works.  When California had  a Guest Worker Program in place many years ago, it worked fine.  The crops were grown, harvested and the workers were here legally.  Since Americans see agricultural work as below their status, any Immigration reform has to include a Guest Worker part.  To oppose that is just plane dumb.

@paullucas714   Funny thing about Texas, it's most liberal area is ten times more conservative than the most conservative area of California.  Orange County is rapidly going the way of the  rest of the Peoples Republic of California.  If the trend continues, not only will the State be totally bankrupt, it's demographics will be 90% Mexican.  Then Orange County can change it's name to Little Tijuana.

@ltpar @18usc241 This man along with the Anaheim / Orange County Sheriffs / California Highway patrol and a partridge in a pear tree conspired to terrorize this Hispanic American on American soil BEFORE 9/11 while this Hispanic American was working for the American company of a WW2 American hero on police engineering projects in Bogota, Colombia.

Get "la problema" now hombre?

What you refer to as "a personal axe to grind" is in actuality the desire to have justice for the irreparable damage caused to me and my wife.

@18usc241 @ltpar Don't know who you are or what you were involved in.  I am sure however, that the Cops didn't just single you out of the masses of humanity and say, "Let's get this guy."  Bottom line is that it sounds like you have a personal ax to grind with Stan Knee and only you and Stan know whether it was deserved or not deserved.  I do not presume to judge.

@ltpar "I knew Stan Knee long before he became a Police Chief and worked with him on mulit-jurisdiction narcotics investigation cases."  ---  So I was working on Colombian vehicle tracking projects in cooperation with the Metropolitan police department in Bogota, Colombia when Stan Knee and company were screwing me over back in Orange County, CA. Stan Knee then goes to Afghanistan as an advisor with the company Dyncorp. Dyncorp of "Plan Colombia" Dyncorp. Get "la problema" now hombre? Part 2

@paullucas714 @ltpar Thank you for the Texas history lesson, but I have already had the full course and am  familiar with Austin, probably more so than you.  Like I said the most liberal area in Texas is still more conservative than California.  I rest my case.

@ltpar @paullucas714 Ltpar, you are obviously delusional. Austin is the most liberal leaning area in Texas and probably the whole south for that matter. Thats why they have festivals such as South By Southwest there. And Austin City Limits, and a lively night club and arts scene. Because thats where the left leaning folks live. You are obviously talking out your butt.
