"Anti-Thanksgiving" Presentation on Thanksgiving Day at El Centro Cultural de México!

Does the uncritical celebration of the national mythology surrounding Thanksgiving leave you bloated and blown up like a Macy's Day parade float? How about the historical denial of settler colonialism? Nauseating much? Like the bubble gut feelings after gorging on too much stuffing and gravy drenched pavo?

If so, alternatives do exist. There is, of course, the annual social network sharing by activists of the article by University of Austin, Texas Professor of Journalism Robert Jensen explaining why he no longer celebrates Thanksgiving -- not even in a redefined manner.

After Jensen raises the question "once we know, what do we do?," he wrote then of wishing he had the option of "participating in a public event that resists Thanksgiving."

Well, for naranjeros, there is just that...

For the fourth year in a row, The American Indian Movement of Southern California, Colectivo Tonantzin, and the Mexica Movement will gather for an anti-Thanksgiving protest and lecture event in SanTanaPresenters include Corine Fairbanks of AIM, Citlalli Citalmina Anahuac speaking on women's resistance since 1492 and Scott Keltic Knot doing his best to present a counter-narrative to the holiday.

A roundtable discussion will follow rounding the event's activities out. Here's to guessing there won't be any turkey, mashed potatoes or pumpkin pies served!

The Southern California American Indian Movement, Colectivo Tonantzin, and the Mexica Movement present the 4th Annual Anti-Thanksgiving Protest/Lecture at El Centro Cultural de Mexico,313 N. Birch Street, Santa Ana. Thurs. 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

so lame!

What a joke. Even my American Indian friends celebrate thanksgiving. And I agree with John Rose, most Mexicans that live in the US don't represent the US at all. It's amazing too that they have so much love for a country(Mexico)that failed them. If it didn't then why would they have come here? If you're born in the US then you're American, U.S.A.

Thanks for writing this article on an alternative for "Thanksgiving".  The way I see it, you can choose to ignore the true cultural and historical context of Thanksgiving and create our own reality; however, the truth remains the truth.

I celebrate the Pilgrims and the Indians, I love Thanksgiving. The people who are speaking freely should give thanks for thanksgiving. As the culture of democracy those speaking against a Federal holiday should give thanks for the muticultural day we came together to try and be a people of different cultures through food and debate instead of war. As without it we are just a mono fascist people trying to kill each other.

Its santa ana not santana. Any editor would catch that unless its gustabo

Thanksgiving is about two ancient cultures coming together to live together. The Indians and Pilgrims at that time where good friends. The idea is to be a Democracy and to be able to come together during times of hardship and work through things. It is a great celebration. If you want to get into hate and bring dislike to things then I feel that sucks.

To me thanksgiving is irrelevant to its historical connection, now it is just a bomb ass dinner with good wine and dessert to share with my loved ones! I by no means celebrate the pilgrims...that is all

@johnrose7588 Santanna represents an ancient spiritual belief in Mexican American. As this area has a high density of Mexicans who are very pro American. A high density of US Mexican American military live here.

sorry to lift the vail of Mexican machismo to show you the truth of Viking Democracy. Mexicans come here to be ruled by Vikings some come for Mexican military to invade they get booted when get ballies like flags, talking it up, proxy movements with no respect. etc.

@fithinblue i myself am american mexican. I lived in santa ana for 15 years. Most hispanics there are not pro american hence when you drive through the city you will see more mexican flags than american flags. Thats why when i go to a store in s.a. the cashier will speak spanish to me and i have to correct him or her that we are in america. And i am aware that most hispanics are catholic. I never heard of any ancient spiritual belief in mexican america. In ancient times there were no mexicans or americans. If you sig deep in mexican culture you will find the mayans, savages and later on catholicism. But no history of santana. I think santana is just a lazy way of saying santa ana. Just for the same reason my mothernlaw refuses to try and learn english. They allready know spanish so its easier. Anyways. Got to go to the fams. Happy thanks giving buddy

In most case scenarios it is not that hard to see who the Mexican proxies warriors are. And in most cases if they disrespect the Mexican military will clean up without US Generals pulling lines. For example one case in the US. A whole street got protesty and all of them did cocain and had illegal immigrants and contacts to foreign nationals. So the whole street was vacated and the least term for human smuggling nexus I forget the word for a teenager who rode in a car with an illegal immigrant got two years. Just over flags.  It is actually funny how in some areas Mexicans think they are hiding where they store materials or human beings. Most of the time folks do not care so long as they do not shove it in the face or act mean to non Mexican lines of proxy warriors.

@johnrose7588 US Proxy warriors are known to take a simple flag list all the way to a Mexican General trying to ballies in the US and take out around 7,000 Mexican military proxy warriors just over a flag. Dude you should read more.

fithinblue

@johnrose7588 Futhermore dude. All Cartels are to US Generals are just proxy warriors against the US. Which the US military has its own world proxies that do not play around either. You fly a Mexican flag and no American flag first sign you listed and their on you like flies on poo. Cause this is the USA. And the Mexican table knows that simple its treatied.

fithinblue
fithinblue

@johnrose7588  @fithinblue actually dude you will not see more Mexican flags than American flags. As it is a felony to fly a Mexican flag without flying an American flag at the same level of hight. As the group of Mexican American military that families left Mexico see Mexican cartels as the Mexican military and thus do not like Mexican flags disrespecting their new American mexican families. Plus there are a group of Mexican and Americans who go around once a month and look for them as it ques into other issues of possible treason or proxy warriors. Also Mexico is 14th Century word brother http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Mexico

Mexico was southern Native American word for that people in the area of Mexico. You find a ancient 16th Century German who found Viking tribes living with Native Americans in these lands named this land America. Where since ancient times Mexican America have had the santanna spirit my friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America

Santanna is an ancient family that believed in the Viking way of life of Democracy and civilized living. Where Mexicans and Americans as again vikings have been in north america since native Americans have been in south america as per anthropoly. The family believed in the Democracy of the cultures. I am so sorry you do not read much.

Happy great feat of winter solstice when ancient Viking tribes used to meet with each other and for the winter stop fighting for woman, water, and grazing lands and came together for which they had and eat and drank and had a merry time.

For example when this rag hit a US econ war board with a full mass cog attack. And brought out the table to all terrorist. The US generals took out about 2,000 Mexican military tied to this rag for it. As per military law respect is respect but flags are military national stuff.

fithinblue

As a matter of fact the group that goes around and lists flags. Has the whole area listed for party materials etc for the proxy warrior pirate chest. However, it is up to the generals who gets it and who does not. Mexican table knows that.
