Alejandro Arias, Nurse's Assistant, Gets 21 Years for Sex Assaults on Two Older Lady Patients

Make it two-for-two today in sentences for male health care workers guilty of sexually assaulting older ladies in their care. Nurse's assistant Alejandro Arias, 40, of Cypress, was sent to state prison for 21 years for his disgusting acts on two women, ages 50 and 60, in his care at Anaheim Terrace Care Center. Perhaps he should have pleaded guilty. Saddleback Memorial Medical Center patient care assistant Narcisco Romanes Blando got four years in prison for sexually assaulting two women in the same age range and battering a third.

Between April 1-July 18, 2008, Arias sexually assaulted the women who were in no medical condition to stop him.

Arias entered their respective rooms as if to perform his normal duties but what he did was anything but, fingering them, touching their breasts and vaginas and making them or attempting to make them beat him off. Both women, who did not know one another, reported the abuse to the care center.

One woman told the court today she suffers from panic attacks and feels uncomfortable around men she does not know and has lost her trust in people, according to a statement from the Orange County District Attorney's office.

The other woman informed she now has a "Do Not Resuscitate" order on file because she does not want to be victimized again.

"I and the other victims were not protected," she reportedly added. "I will have to live with this nightmare for the rest of my life, while he will eventually be released from prison and will live his life like nothing happened."

A jury in July found Arias guilty of five felony counts of forcible lewd acts upon a dependent person by a caretaker, five felony counts of sexual battery on an institutionalized person, three felony counts of lewd acts upon a dependent person by a caretaker, one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force, and one felony count of attempted sexual battery.

The maximum sentence the certified nursing assistant and assistant physical therapist faced was 51 years in state prison.

He will have to register as a sex offender for life.
