Camp Pendleton's commander says he "respects" the Orange County District Attorney investigation into the fatal shooting of Marine Sgt. Manuel Levi "Manny" Loggins Jr. by a sheriff's deputy.

But Brigadier General Vincent A. Coglianese added his thoughts, prayers and support remain strong for the Loggins family, which is suing the County of Orange over the tragedy.

At a media roundtable attended by District Attorney Tony Rackauckas Friday, his office revealed it will not criminally charge Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Sandberg for the early morning Feb. 7 incident at San Clemente High School.

Camp Pendleton officials receive findings of death investigation

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - The Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West-Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, met with members of the Orange County District Attorney's Office aboard base this morning for a brief regarding the investigation and legal conclusion in connection with the officer involved shooting on Feb. 7, 2012, that resulted in the death of Sgt. Manuel L. Loggins, Jr.

Brig. Gen. Vincent Coglianese was presented the findings that were provided to the public today at 1 p.m.

"The death of Sgt. Loggins is tragic and unfortunate," said Coglianese. "While we respect the investigative process by the District Attorney's office, we continue to provide support to the Loggins family and they remain in our thoughts and prayers."
