Damian Anthony Reyes Held in Sexual Assault of 8 y.o. Girl After Alleged DNA Match

Categories: Crime-iny
Someone broke into a home in the 1500 block of North Ross Street in Santa Ana June 29, climbed onto the top bunk where an 8-year-old girl was sleeping, sexually assaulted her and disappeared into the night after the screams of the girl's 13-year-old sister in the bottom bunk awoke their father.

But police claim Damian Anthony Reyes left something behind that led to the Santa Ana 26-year-old's arrest today.

It turns out Reyes has a record for DUI and drug possession, and his DNA was collected during previous stays in jail and rehab.

The Santa Ana Police Department released a sketch of the girl's attacker, but the trail went cold until the Orange County crime database matched DNA left at the scene with Reyes', according to the agency.

His home address is about two miles from the North Ross Street residence. Police do not believe he knew or was related to the victim.

Reyes, who was held in lieu of $1 million bail at Santa Ana City Jail, was booked on suspicion of felony burglary and child molestation. For now, because investigators are trying to determine if he can be linked to other similar crimes. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855.TIP.OCCS.
