Jay Chen, LA-OC Congressional Candidate, Gets Racist "Gook" Email From Disbarred Lawyer

Most people don't respond to mass emails from political campaigns.

But Sam Liu, campaign manager for candidate Jay Chen, sent the Weekly a message he received on Oct. 13 in response to a bulk email asking voters to support Chen's race for the 39th congressional district against incumbent Republican Ed Royce.

The email response was from former Costa Mesa attorney Anthony Kassas, and it was laced with brutally racist remarks.

Specifically, it read:

"Fuck off chink. I'd never vote for a slant eyed gook. Asians are trying to take over out (sic) country so why would I want to vote for a slope. Fuck off and die. I hope you get cancer of the eyes and testicles. Leave me alone.

Thank you,

Anthony Kassas

Sent from my iPhone. please excuse any typos."

Sadly for staffers of the Chen campaign, this isn't the only unpleasantness they've had to endure. Recently, several posters were ripped from the front of their Fullerton headquarters, and tasteless signs have been popping up around town including one that reads "Vote for the American" and "Is Jay Chen a Closet Commie?"

Until last year, Kassas operated a law firm that shared a common lobby with the Weekly's offices. On Aug. 18, 2011, agents with the California Department of Justice raided the office, shuttered its doors and placed the practice in receivership.  Attorney General Kamala Harris alleged that Kassas's legal practice was, in fact, a scheme to dupe underwater mortgage holders into signing up for a bogus lawsuit against banks like Chase and Bank of America

This morning the Weekly sent an email to the address supplied by the Chen campaign. We asked Kassas if he would comment on his recent troubles with the Department of Justice and the California Bar Association. Within minutes, Kassas responded and asked what our questions were. The Weekly then sent a copy of the racially filled text asking for comment as well as a follow up request. As of press time, he hadn't replied to that or a subsequent request for comment.

After Kassas was forced to leave his office, he  tried unsuccesffuly to to have his practice removed from state receivership. A visit to the California Bar website indicates that as of December 2011, he hasn't been eligible to practice law in the state.

Documents posted on the Bar's website chronicle hundreds of counts involving either gross negligence or moral turpitude related to his now defunct practice as well as the violation of a protective order filed against him in Los Angeles County. We contacted his former girlfriend, who declined to elaborate on specifics and didn't want to be identified, but confirmed that she filed a restraining order against him.

Cup cake let me write a little slower maybe you can catch on , OK cupcake? NO Jay Chen was  the one upset about the Marine in uniform . ,JAY complained about this highly decorated Marine in uniform at a school board meeting. It must be hard for you to read long sentences so I  will make this short. Jay reported him to the department of military affairs. My dear friend received a letter stating that he MAY where his uniform EXCEPT for political purposes. My dear friend was not found to be guilty of breaking any protocols or laws but Jay Chen is wearing his uniform for political reasons, THIS may  be hard for you to grasp ,(read this part very slow) but Jay Chen was the one who was offended by the American uniform .AND NOW HE IS USING IT FOR  POLITICAL GAIN  ! My dear decorated marine  friend  fought for this country as well as my father my 2 brother and most recently my son , who fought 2x in Iraq ,These MEN WERE ACTIVE duty  and fought  in wars not like Jay Chen who was in the Reserves.  NOW DO YOU GET IT ? OR ARE YOU JUST PLAYING THE  RACE CARD TOO !,  ASK YOURSELF HM, WHY WAS JAY CHEN SO UPSET THAT HE HAD TO MAKE A FORMAL COMPLAINT A BOUT A MAN WEARING A MARINE UNIFORM . WHO IS THE REAL AMERICAN HERE?  JAY HAS A TEMPER , EVER SEEN HIM IN ACTION GO TO SCHOOL BOARD MEETING HE LOSES IT ALL THE TIME . DO YOU REALLY THINK HE CAN HELP OTHER PEOPLE OR REACH ACROSS THE ISLE? There are rules, laws and protocols we must follow for some reason he believes that laws do not apply to him.

I recall at one of the school board meeting, when JAY Chen  was on the board of the La Puente / Hacienda district .A very interested  AMERICAN  CITIZEN IN HIS UNIFORM . came in  to the board meeting in  a very decorated Marine uniform, Jay found this man to be very offensive wearing.it to a board meeting  Jay reported this man to the higher ups in the  Marine. Corps,

claimed he wasn't supposed to wear the  uniform for political reasons And well can you looky here .Jay has on a uniform FOR POLITICAL reasons . I was born a democrat he may be running under the  disguise of the democrat party but I still believe he is a communist,.You all need to be at the school board meeting watch how he acts ,Tapping those who speak with his cell phone and posing remarks about the people who oppose his ideas he is very child like. he has a hard time keeping his temper down.. Following the Brown law  which governs the way a school board meeting is supposed to be run. , If he can't follow the rules at a "lil ole school board meeting how can we expect him to !run with the big boys?t

bad grammar, typos. Sounds like this Kassass guy is a tea party right wing conservative uneducated redneck inbred. Sounds like he's living in the wrong county and the wrong state. He should take his law practice to the south or Idaho.

Here in Buena Park, I have noticed that several of Chen's signs have been marked with graffiti. I have also seen his signs turned around so that his name isn't showing. Even though I am not a supporter, I fix his signs. Congressman Royce can beat him without breaking the rules.  I would be shocked if any of the people doing these un-American hateful acts are Royce volunteers.

It's low-brow; it's unbecoming, and it's classless and truly disgustingly bigoted.  At the same time, it is free speech; and speech isn't free only when we aren't offended by the words chosen.

Greg Diamond is SO PISSED no one called him a name.

Greg: " Jay, Jews are hated more than Chinks" Chen Refutes this....Greg answers back "Wanna bet, EVERYBODY hates Jews, just look at my blog posts".Besides I am a bigger Jew than you are a Chink"

Jay Chen, looking puzzled (as in WTF?): "Greg, they don't hate Jews, they hate YOU".

Disclaimer: this was meant as a joke, Personally I believe that the only socially acceptable bigotry left in America is against Fat People. So you still lose Greg.

@terrimac53 It must be hard for you to read *short* sentences, because none of your rant actually addressed JohnnyCupcake's point:

You are suggesting that Jay is using the military uniform for political gain.

Cupcake points out that it's not JAY using the photo of himself in uniform--it's the WEEKLY that is using the photo and writing the article, NOT Jay himself.

@terrimac53  Hi you fucking retard. May I call you fucking retard? Of course I can, everyone calls you that.

Are you suggesting that because the Weekly ran a picture of Jay Chen in a uniform it means "he" is somehow using it for political purposes? Drink a bottle of Pine Sol and put yourself out of our misery, Thanks.

@Guest Kassas is free to say what he wants and we're free to criticize as much as we want. Freedom of speech isn't freedom from criticism.

@marc.wu3030  @Guest right wing rednecks are free to speak their minds. I support their freedom to speak because its comedy. Look at their comments about rape/abortion. It just shows their ignorance.
