Meet OC Weekly's New Owners, Same (Kind Of) As OC Weekly's Old Owners!

Don't worry, Mike Carona: You're not rid of us yet!
Guess what, kids! Your favorite infernal rag has new owners--kind of!

Today, Voice Media Group announced that it's buying out the Weekly and all of its sister papers (there's 13 of us, like any good Mexican family) from the former Village Voice Media. The new owners are some of our old leaders--Scott Tobias is the CEO (previously, he was COO of VVM) and Christine Brennan is in charge of all editorial (previously, she was executive managing editor of VVM). Our former drunk mick bosses, Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin, are out of the game and off to fight idiot prudes.

So does that mean that yours truly is getting deported back to Mexico? That Moxley will finally make a bunch of Republicans happy and vamoose? That Nick Schou will stop exposing dirty cops, that Coker will stop his blogging desmadre, that readers will finally discover the identity of our food critic, Edwin Goei?

Not even close--AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You can read the press release by our newish owners here for all the particulars, but all I can say is that the mission of the Weekly remains, and that our owners are committed to that mission because, um, that was the old mission under them when we were called Village Voice Media. We remain, to raise hell, just like we always have.

Now, discuss!

I like the Weekly a lot...I hope it doesn't change.

Also, I would like to say thank you for not switching over to Facebook commenting.  If you do, I'll be pissed!  I can't believe that almost every site has switched to FB commenting, it's the worst idea ever!

I like the OC Weekly and the other papers, but I'm a little nervous...

more often than not, when the detached and emotionless business people sell to the earnest insiders/editorial peeps, it means the emotionless business people are unloading a sinking ship, and the earnest insiders (who are trying to save their livelihoods and preserve something they've invested a lot in) eagerly -- and blindly -- assume the rudder...i.e., only prolonging the inevitable.

I could be wrong...I hope I'm wrong...but I'd feel a lot better if the late Walter Annenberg or Warren Buffet bought VV Media.....

@kspidel HA! And tell @keithplocek that Lacey drinks Jameson, not scotch—he's a mick, after all, not some damn kilt-wearer!

@GustavoArellano Ah, just read the PR.  Splitting off backpages is a good move, but it also means both entities have to stand up on their own.  Also makes it easier to sell either or both units.

You should apologize to yourself for that poop mouth of yours and for sacrificing your dignity and self respect to become what you have @GustavoArellano @mophisto.waltz
