Ask and ye shall receive. Sorta. The Justice Department wanted 65-year-old Paul Cosgrove of Laguna Niguel to get 15 months in prison after he admitted to authorizing bribes in China on behalf of his former industrial valve manufacturing company.

Federal Judge James Selna in Santa Ana today sentenced Cosgrove to 13 months . . . of home confinement.

Going a tad easier on Cosgrove seemed to be based on his 2010 quadruple bypass surgery and lingering health problems. He reportedly thanked prosecutors for not opposing his home confinement at his sentencing, while also apologizing for his crimes.

The former director of international sales for Control Components Inc. pleaded guilty in May to violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which prohibits improper payments to foreign officials to win business. By admitting to authorizing the payments, Cosgrove became the fifth former executive of the of Rancho Santa Margarita company to plead guilty to charges stemming from the scheme.
