OC Pioneers Who Were Klan Members: A. Verd Napier and James E. Rymer, OC Newspapermen

And this series is BACK after my short hiatus...somewhere. Miss it, pathetic fanboys? Of course you did!

Since I didn't do anything for two weeks, you get a two-fer: two pioneering Orange County newspapermen who were Klan members, although A. Verd Napier and James E. Rymer were hella difficult to unearth. The Klan roster during the 1920s misspelled both of their names (and also someone with the Placentia Courier whose name I still can't crack--but, hey, that's another column in the future!). And even ol' Napier gets somewhat off, because I couldn't figure out what the A stood for--he even has that listed as his first name on the 1920 U.S. Census.

But I was able to figure out their employer.

Napier was a publisher of small newspapers in the Midwest until moving to Orange County in 1919 to become the business manager for the pre-R.C. Hoiles Santa Ana Register. He was also played a role in the early days of Orange County's first commercial radio station, KFAW. Rymer was the editor of the Brea Progress, important in spreading the KKK's message in that sordid little town

Okay, enough fun: back to work! I heard something happened in Anaheim while I was gone?

"OC Pioneers Who Were Klan Members" is an award-winning series examining Orange County's sordid Ku Klux Klan past. Tune in every Monday around 5 p.m. for the latest entry exposing OC's city fathers who were Klan members!

My Voice Nation Help

Gustavo is one of the most racist motherfuckers around.

If anyone is a "pathetic fanboy" it is indeed this Gustavo Arellano fool.

Half of cops in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach are white supremacists, so this isn't surprising.

Ask one to show you his ankle tattoo!

@ageofknowledge Not only was I a member, but I've only written about it about a trillion times—smoke THAT, Linda!

@ageofknowledge NOOO! Not the dreaded "BALONEY" argument!

THOU HAST DEFEATED MY LOGIC ON THE INTERWEBS by dropping the nuclear "Baloney" option!

MY GOD. What have you done?!

BillxT topcommenter

What! You belong to an organization dedicated to mutual support and the advancement of your community?  Say it isn't so, Gustavo!

@GustavoArellano - Are you currently a member of MEChA? If not - why not?

BillxT topcommenter

Speaking in universals, you need to beware, that makes your opponents' job very easy, it only takes one counter-example.

Your logic is faulty if you think that's proof:

All polar bears are white

This animal is white

This animal is a polar bear

BTW, as racist organizations go, MEChA is to the KKK as in licquor, Koolaid is to whiskey. I'm sure I've looked at the same evidence that you have and I'm flatly almost as unimpressed as I am with O. Tait's rants. Most confusion appears to be people projecting statements by individuals onto the organiztion (see false syllogism, above, wow, double application in one post).

BillxT topcommenter

Aaahhhh, so you got my point. Not surprised you did, I was kinda hoping that you would be a bit slower so I could see if any one else did.

@BillxT But that is exactly what the 2nd Klan was -- an organization of whites (old stock whites, in fact), dedicated to preserving that national community that their forefathers had built.

GustavoArellano moderator editortopcommenter

@NGCoot Last I checked, MEChA was a college group, and I'm out of college. I don't cling to my past as you do to your pathetic, pedophilic Mater Dei!

GustavoArellano moderator editortopcommenter

@ageofknowledge Yeah, because issuing death threats to the DA is a walk in the park...typical apologist loser...

@GustavoArellano MEChA is to the Mexican Mafia as Sinn Fein is to the IRA Provos. Except that Sinn Fein and the Provos actually have a just cause.

GustavoArellano moderator editortopcommenter

@ageofknowledge Last I checked, MEChA never lynched anyone or had apologists as pathetic as you.
