Rick Warren Cancels Obama-Romney Civil Forum at Saddleback Due to Lack of Civility

Well, we won't have Rick Warren's presidential Civil Forum to kick around anymore.

Or, at least not this election cycle as Saddleback Church's Purpose-Driven pastor cancelled a follow-up to the 2008 Barack Obama-John McCain Civil Forum because the campaigns of The Chosen One and The Stiffly One are being, well, uncivil.

It doesn't take a weatherman to see the current political climate won't allow for "a place where people of goodwill can seriously disagree on significant issues without being disagreeable or resorting to personal attack and name-calling," explains Warren (via the Christian Broadcasting Network).

Heading into the November, "I've never seen more irresponsible personal attacks, mean-spirited slander, and flat-out dishonest attack ads, and I don't expect that tone to change before the election," Warren adds. "It would be hypocritical to pretend civility for one evening only to have the name-calling return the next day."

And that's a shame, according to the Lake Forest mega-church leader, because "the TV networks were eager to cover it again since it garnered one of the largest viewing audiences of that election."

Rick Warren Superstar

Warren claims the campaigns of the president and Mitt Romney "were both favorable to participating."

At least they could agree on that.

Rick Warren is an old friend of mine from the Church of Satan Days.  Me & Jim Jones raised up the little Dicky as we used to call him.  Oh yes, we go way way back.  He's collecting a LOT of money for our Brotherhood.  Hehe.  (You will all BURN

Facebook commenter Jim Diaz raises a good point that may raise the hairs on the backs of the necks of conspiracy theorists: What if Warren spiked the forum on Romney's behalf, knowing that a religious discussion might force Mitt to address Mormonism, something he is loathe to do unless he totally controls the situation. Romney also wouldn't bite when Brian Williams just tried to interview him about his faith.

I have never witnessed or heard about Warren policing ANYBODY's morality, people come to him and he gives advise, but he has never actively persecuted anyone. You can listen to him or not, free speech, and freedom of conscience.

Warren is well respected and the press and other prominent people come to HIM, and I don't see Warren have a show on MSNBC like that joke "Revered" Jesse Jackson, liberation theology is such a twisting of Christianity is laughable. That's why I'm disappointed in Warren for canceling the debate, we need a serious debate addressing religious issues.

Dear Rick Warren:  Please read Article VI, Paragraph 3 aka the "no religious test for office under the Constitution" section. Then live it. Thank You--Americans for a separated church and state (unlike Iran).

Since when is it Pastor Warren's job to police everybody's behavior?

Hey Rick.  I hear Amazon is streaming The Flintstones Season One.

I'm kind of disappointed in Rick Warren, so don't call it a civility forum, call it a debate. We need at least one debate where religious issues will be discussed seriously

@20ftjesus No one under 30 will understand why Fred tilts the bird down so his beak is in contact with the spinning rock disk.
