A Buena Park man is scheduled to be arraigned this morning on charges he stashed a large inventory of dental narcotics and other drugs and falsely represented himself as a dentist despite having no valid license to practice.

Esteban Campos faces up to eight years in prison if convicted of two felony counts of the sale or transportation of a controlled substance, two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one misdemeanor count each of furnishing dangerous drugs without a prescription, dispensing or furnishing a dangerous drug or device, and practicing dentistry without a valid license, according to an emailed statement from the district attorney's office.

Campos is accused of operating Steven's Dental Lab in Buena Park and practicing dentistry illegally without a valid license, something that was discovered last December, when the state's dental board received a complaint about him.

Undercover investigators posing as patients in need of dental work visited Campos twice between February and March.

The officials accused Campos of portraying himself as a dentist to them, and performing dental exams, giving diagnoses, suggesting oral surgery and braces, and making a followup appointment. He also faces allegations of "quoting prices ranging from $65 to $2,000, depending on the procedure," according to the district attorney's office.

Law enforcement claims a search of Campos' office uncovered a large cache of controlled substances and dental narcotics including Morphine Sulfer, Vicodin and Soma as well as an array of dangerous drugs without prescriptions. Officials allege that Campos issued the drugs to patients without a license or prescriptions.
