Later this fall, the Newport Harbor Yacht Club hosts the annual Fleet Under Way to Baja Rally--better known as the FUBAR rally of recreational powerboats to La Paz.

Meanwhile, the member of another yacht is organizing a FUBAR to Cuba. FUCR, anyone?

Circumnavigator and filmmaker Bruce Kessler of Del Rey Yacht Club is organizing the so-called FUBAR Odyssey that--pending government approval--hopes to set sail in spring of 2013, reports The Log newspaper.

Kessler has already met with U.S. government officials, received instructions on special State Department licenses participants must obtain and sent out sample itineraries and entry forms.

So far, 105 boaters have signed up for the inaugural event that will likely follow a route from Florida to Marina Hemingway, which is near Havana and 90 miles south of Key West.

Events that include cruises are already being talked about with Club Nautico International of the Hemingway International Yacht Club, according to Kessler, who maintains the Cuban government is also on board and the Cuban people are "very welcoming."
