Is Calvary Chapel Preparing Camp Pendleton Marines to Fight for the End Times?

Calvary Chapel has more than a few critics--scratch that, Calvary Chapel has a hell of a lot of critics, from folks who don't like its child-molester protecting ways to former members virtually excommunicated because they dared criticize founder/leader/Ra Chuck Smith, to other evangelical Christians who think Chuckie, true to the church's Jesus People origins, preaches a Gospel that's the theological version of a Peter Max poster.

But now, a new wing of critics is taking aim at the mothership with a fascinating angle: atheists who claim Calvary Chapel has an undue presence in Camp Pendleton, and that teaching their "doomsday" theology to troops is potentially disastrous for the future of this country.

That's the charge that three groups--American Atheists Inc., the Freedom from Religion Foundation and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation--made in an August 6 letter to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert. The Marine Times reported that the groups are mainly complaining that officials at Pendleton are denying them equal access to the facilities while allowing Calvary Chapel and other Christian organizations to have free run of the area.

In particular, though, they blast Pendleton's decision to allow Chuckie's troops so much freedom. "We are disturbed that the government is giving such extensive support, including assets, resources and personnel, to a single sect of Christianity," the groups wrote. "Even more troubling is the 'doomsday' nature of [Calvary Chapel]. ... The last thing Camp Pendleton needs is a large group of well-armed Marines convinced of an imminent doomsday crisis."

Smith, of course, has a wacky habit of insisting he knows when the End Times are coming--who can forget when he said the end of the world would happen in 1981, and it didn't happen?

Chuckie denied the allegation to the Marine Times, but was also nice enough--for once!--to say he's not opposed to atheist groups at Pendleton. If only he was as nice to Muslims...

God haters will always fuss and blame and accuse, that is what they do. It will never change the fact that their is one God ,he lives and he will come again. Haters of Calvary Chapels have always raved and ranted,so what they are deceived and can do nothing but spread hate and lies. Everyone will have to deal with Jesus sooner or later ---everyone.

So many deviants hide behind religion. How about the most devote revolt against the church? How could Jesus be mad at you, after all that religion does to go out of their way to commit sin.

If the lord our God is coming then the lord our God will come when the lord our God deems it time to do so. It is not for us to determine the hour of gods coming. Nor is it for us to "self fulfill" the prophecy of his coming. to do so is among the greatest of sins against God. For mortal man can never truly know what God is thinking. To assume you can is a sin against God as well.

This is among the many reasons why the founders of our nation made a separation of church and state to go hand in hand with our religious freedoms. Because the teachings of Jesus Christ  taught them well. After all it was Jesus that said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."  Mark 12:17

Only if you consider "end times" to mean economic collapse. The national guard will need the regular military to round up/execute the starving masses into FEMA camps for political re-education.

People are fallible Gustavo.  I'm sure you've made a few mistakes in your relatively short life-time.  Chuck Smith later admitted his mistake about trying to predict the Lord's return.  Churches themselves aren't perfect either.  If there was such a thing, the moment you or I walked into it, it would become imperfect.  In other words, people make up churches and people aren't perfect.  It's fine to call attention to areas of concern within the Calvary Chapel hierarchy.  I've heard that the pastoral staff within Calvary Chapel churches have a hard time calling sin sin, when it comes to dealing with fellow pastors and/or elders, where in some instances, they attempt to either overlook the sin or cover it up.  That's not a good thing obviously.

If there are shenanigans happening within a church or denomination (or in the case with Calvary Chapel... a non-denomination denomination) they should be dealt with swiftly and the situation resolved; so as not to allow the "world" (unbelievers) - such as yourself Gustavo, the opportunity to ridicule the Church or Christians in general. Like you have just done by demonizing a man of God who admitted his past mistake.  And as you have also done by ridiculing the Church in general.  The reality is the Bible speaks about the "end times" in both the Old and New Testaments.  There is a day when Jesus Christ will come back for his Church and the universe will dissolve from intense heat.  According to the Bible we are in the end times. But the Bible also says that a day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. The Lord is merciful, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Your apparent hatred toward Christians and Christianity is likely linked to your atheistic, liberal worldview.  The 'new' sub-culture within the ranks of atheism are not content to simply deny the existence of God and to live and let live.  The adherents of new Atheism have gone off the deep end to vilify and demonize those who believe in God and now it's a "live and let die" proposition with atheists. They not only seek to destroy a God, who to them, doesn't even exist; but they also demonize those who do believe in God, in an attempt to destroy Christianity itself.  You must be proud of yourself Gustavo. You probably sit up late into the night thinking of ways to persecute and ridicule people who believe in God or think differently than you do huh.  The new atheism at work I dare say.  I will pray for you Gustavo.  "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

@GustavoArellano Disturbing. You can't have freedom of religion if certain religions are given more access than others.

@bluesnail1995 sorry God came as a man to save everyone from their sin ,yes you and me,Jesus died on the cross and rose to the heavens, he will come again as judge next time. God can be in your heart but you have to ask him in and believe that's all.

Evil runs this earth, but only for a time.

Im sure if it was a Christian Concert all the hypocrites would be complaining about the non-existent "seperation of church and state" which is found nowhere in the constitution. It is in a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Banbary Baptists. (Telling them the state would stay out of the churches bussiness not the other way around)

@RobFausett religious freedom in the Early America was founded in the belief in one God not the many offered in Europe or even England. God blessed the founding fathers to form a democratic Christian nation. We are now a melting pot of peoples and religions, which ones have been forgotten I wonder.

@GustavoArellano @TravisD hey buddy a Christian is not perfect just forgiven, don't forget there was treachery in the early church ,even when Christ was alive in the world .Remember judas? one of the 12? Jesus new he was there,People are born into sin every day,Christ came to forgive mans sins, and he used it to glorify the father. When Christ comes again to the earth it will be to judge. How will God judge you sir? And no Christians are not above the laws of this land.

You complain about childmolesters now but like most people I have met if you spent a few minutes with me while im preaching you would be joining in with those deluted Christians in saying I shouldnt judge. (Jesus never condemned judgement btw, he condemned hypocritical judgement, like for example judgeing someone for judgeing)

I think after a fair trial if someone is convicted with concreate evidence of pedophilia they should be executed. (No years of apeals either, just have the bailiff drag them out back and let the parents cast the first stone). Personally i'm the kind of Christian who would walk into a Church and warn the whole Church in the middle of service if I knew of such a person...and they where unrepentant or self rightious (Justifing their sin ext.) But only if I KNEW what happened...and had an opportunity to confront the individul and to confront them a second time with a witness (LIke Jesus commanded us to do if a Brother wrongs us) In fact I have done such a thing at my sisters wedding (her and her husband are con-artists) Would you rather have to deal with a "non-judgey" Christian's(Thats why they dnt say or do anything, because they take Matt. 7 out of context and THINK that judgeing is wrong) or One like me who you can't get to shut up or stop preaching against pedophilia, whoredom, adultery, ect? You go off on him for his pedophilia but have you ever commited sexual sin? Jesus said if you look upon a woman with lust you have commited adultery in your heart? Have you ever told a lie? If the answer is yes then what dose that make you? What would you call me if I lied to you, A liar right! The Bible says ALL liars will have their part in the Lake Of FIRE. God's wrath abides on you.
