A man surfers found floating in the waters off Bolsa Chica State Beach on June 9 and who died despite their life-saving efforts has been identified.

He was Wilfredo Escobar, 34, of Henderson, Nevada, according to the Orange County Coroner's division.

After Escobar died at Huntington Beach Hospital following his being pulled from the surf near Bolsa Chica's Tower 19, the coroner sought the public's help identifying him. The John Doe's description included his possibly being either Hispanic or Middle Eastern.

Do You Recognize This Man Found Floating in the Bolsa Chica Surf?

Because personal items found about 500 feet up the beach from where the body was discovered include a white towel, investigators surmise Escobar may have been a guest at a local motel or  hotel.

There is currently no evidence of foul play, but the coroner is awaiting test results before issuing a cause of death.
