A Westminster man is believed to have argued verbally with his 84-year-old father in a medical center parking lot Friday afternoon before things turned physical and the old man was fatally beaten, police say.

Now, the 51-year-old son is accused of murder.

Westminster Police got the call around 12:45 p.m. Friday about an assault in the lot at 14571 Magnolia St. There they found Tri Nguyen on the ground unconscious. His son, Tue Minh Nguyen, allegedly ran away from the officers but was captured after a short foot chase.

Meanwhile, his father was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died Saturday morning. Tue Nguyen was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and held in lieu of $500,000 bail. But the charge was upped to murder after his father passed away.

Police, who are unsure what caused the initial argument, hope witnesses can fill in some of the blanks. Anyone with information is asked to contact homicide detectives at 714.898.3315.
