[UPDATED with Victim I.D., Details, Reward:] Edgar Ortiz, OC Homicide No. 27: Shot in Street
We know more about the stabbing (barely) than we do the shooting. The dead man has not been identified, and the investigation continues into whether the shooting was related to the stabbing cops rolled up on 15 minutes earlier.
In any event, police believe the shooting was gang-related. It happened about four blocks from Orange County's 58th homicide of 2011:
Brenda Romero, 2011 OC Homicide No. 58: Shot Dead in the Head
The stabbing is not being investigated as a gang crime. The male victim in that case was stuck in the upper part of his body during a fight that broke out at a party. Also unidentified, he was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Police are still trying to fill holes in both incidents. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 714.245.8648.
