Kelly Thomas 1-Year Beating Death Anniversary Rung in with Lawsuit by His Father Ron Thomas

Proving yet again that what happens in the Kelly Thomas family does not necessarily stay in the Kelly Thomas family, the father of the slain homeless man is suing the city of Fullerton.

The wrongful death lawsuit, filed by Ron Thomas on the one-year anniversary of his frail, 37-year-old schizophrenic son being beaten to death as six Fullerton police officers hovered over him, seeks unspecified damages.

Ron Thomas' ex-wife, and Kelly Thomas' mother, already received a $1 million settlement from the city in exchange for pursuing no further legal action. That settlement had no bearing on what Ron Thomas does, as the couple is long divorced.

Exhibit A in Ron Thomas' lawsuit?
The settlement with Cathy Thomas and new complaint by her ex-husband have no influence on the criminal case against suspended Fullerton police officers Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli, who have a continued arraignment hearing scheduled July 13.

The suit names not only the city and those two officers, but four other Fullerton cops who participated in the fatal beating and former police chiefs Patrick McKinley and Michael Sellers.

"The city has a long history of ignoring its officers' abusive practices and is deliberately indifferent to the violations of constitutional rights resulting from the city's customs, practices and policies," according to the complaint.

The suit alleges Kelly Thomas' federal and state civil rights were violated, that he suffered unjustified assault and battery, that the city and police department were negligent and that police brass were liable for many of the wrongful actions.

Because the incident was captured by audio and video recordings, the case has garnered national attention, driven out police chiefs and Fullerton City Council members and led to widespread changes involving citizen oversight of a police department perceived to be out of control.

F the taxpayers, Rocio. Stop whining for your taxes. Taxpayers look the other way and let this kind of abuse go on as long as it doesn't affect them.

Fullerton is a sh!thole of paranoia, greed, hysteria, unfounded snobbery, and reactionary politics. But other than that, I like it.

It is a gruesome,  grisly  picture. But like the cliche' says, "a picture is worth a thousand words."  I don't mind if they publish it. WHat happened to Kelly was gruesome and grisly.

Kelly lived behind my shop for more then two years. I saw him everyday. Do you know how many times his loving father showed up there in over two yeras? ZERO, NONE! Not once did Ron show up with a sandwhich or a blanket!! People say he could not do anything and I agree he could not force meds etc but he could of showed up with food or anything!! Since day one it has been all about him not his son!! He said he didnot recognize Kelly because of the beard. Kelly had that beard for over a year which proves my point more. I support Kelly but Ron has turned me off so much from this issue..People like myself who cared and saw Kelly everyday get disgusted when we see his bs and self absorbed, ego-maniac behavior!! If you cared about your son you would of stopped by atleast ONCE in two years to see him, to hold him, to feed him. Now you just feed your ego!! REAL talk..

Mr. Thomas, its a shame to see you running around with lawsuits and to know that your ex wife took money from the tax payers for the death of your son. If you and your ex wife would have been better parents both of you should have taken better care of your son. What would have happened if your son had committed a crime on an innocent person, would you have share the responsibility? You seem to have a lot of free time to run around in news conference and with bloodsucking attorney who are seeking a pay day!!! Are you going to donate the money you make from your book and lawsuit to a charity or are you doing this to benefit your self out of your son death? Next time you look in the mirror you will be seen your son killer!!!!

You have a somewhat bizarre recollection of history, pal. Political activist Medgar Evers was shot in the back in the driveway of his home in June, 1963. He died soon after in a local hospital and was buried at Arlington with full military honors. The incident you're probably thinking of, again misremembered, was the 1955 beating, disfigurement and shooting of 14-year-old Emmett Till, whose weighted body was then dumped in a river. He was indeed accused of whistling at a white woman. There were two attackers - the woman's husband and his half-brother. If you're gonna post, you owe it to yourself and everyone else to get your facts straight ...

yes it is. In as much as the mother of Medgar Evars demanded that his funeral was an open casket funeral so that the public can see in un-edited fashion the brutality that racism brings and how it is manifested in the bashing of his face so as to make him unrecognizable. He was accused of whistling at a white woman and beaten to death by having his face smashed to a pulp by mob of white klan members. So yes it is necessary.

Yes, even when the ugly truth tells you your friends lie to you. Always remember actions speak louder than flowery, rhetoric spewed by sons of not so saintly women . If not for tacit approval or complicit persons, would kelly Thomas have a recognizable face?

@ Gigi, please look up the meaning of frail before sounding so insensitive. Just because someone is physically frail, doesn't mean they don't use profanity as part of their daily language.

Oh, and is that a problem for you?  Tell you what.  I have a message for any and all of your law enforcement friends.  Please deliver it to them for me: Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck YOU, piggies. See we've got this thing called the First Amendment.  It allows me to swear at you, disagree with you, and generally disrespect you.  If you don't like it there are plenty of countries with more authoritarian constitutions you and your buddies could move to.

Its the sympathy thing..poor frail Kelly. Today frail was added to Kelly's ailments. He sure didn't have a frail mouth. He said the F" word 10 times to the officers.
