Canyon Complaints Due Soon, "Tree Huggers"!

Categories: Environment
The public comment period on an environmental impact report related to a controversial development plan in the canyons east of Orange will be open until July 20 at 5 p.m.

Monks from St. Michael's Abbey on El Toro Road near Cook's Corner bought land at the former Holtz Ranch in Silverado Canyon and aim to build a new monastery at the site. The plan has drawn fire from many longtime canyon residents, who say the new abbey will be an eyesore in the bucolic canyons.

Comments on the project's Draft Environmental Impact Report can be mailed to Orange County Community Development at 300 N. Flower St., 1st Floor, Santa Ana, CA. 92702-4048. Or, they can be emailed to Channary.Leng@ocpw.ocgov.com.
