Carlos Bustamante: The Official List of the Santa Ana Councilman's Alleged Sex Crimes

Bustamante: Should he resign from the city council?

Orange County Superior Court officials updated their public records today to reflect the government's pending sex crimes accusations against Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante.

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas believes Bustamante, the onetime up and coming Republican politician, is guilty of a seven-year crime spree of 16 counts--12 felonies and four misdemeanors ranging from April 2003 to September 2011.

If eventually found guilty of all the charges, he'll face a potential 26-year prison sentence, according to prosecutors.

A superior court judge has not yet been assigned to handle the trial.

Many people are making statements that would indicate that Mr. Bustamante is guilty of the crimes he is charged with. The truth is that there are only a very few people that know for sure whether he is guilty or not. Those people are the alleged victims and the accused...and God if you believe in God. So far the defendant has denied his guilt and will plead not guilty at his arraignment. What this means is that at this moment he is innocent of the charges. In fact, if this matter goes to jury trial, the judge will tell the jurors that they MUST PRESUME THAT HE IS INNOCENT WHEN THE TRIAL BEGINS. They can only change that view if the DA proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he in fact guilty. Until then, when people discuss this case they need to remember that this has been our system of justice for over 200 years, and it works pretty well. Unless we want to change our system of justice, everyone needs to keep in mind that this man is "presumed innocent' under our laws. If he is found guilty, there is no doubt in my mind he will be severely punished. However, until that time let’s please follow the rules. These are the same rules that would apply if someone you loved was accused of a crime.

I'm looking for any news or opinions that all of this might be made up. It all seems a little suspicious to me. If Bustamante denies ALL allegations, is it possible that this is a political ploy to oust him and get somebody favored into his position? Why did Rackauckas go in front of cameras and declare the long list of alleged violations? I don't know OC politics much, but this whole story just sounds like it's all made up just to get Bustamante out of there for some reason.

No one has been 'prosecuted' yet. I could write a long list of dems that have committed the same or similar crimes..and you are retarded.

Who did he make agree, why did it take so long to Prosecute so many charges? He has a right to swift prosecution under the Constitution

I doubt he'll serve any time for any of these charges. He'll probably just plea guilty to a couple of the charges that are felonies and actually get convicted of misdemeanors.
