Another Pervert in Calvary Chapel's Pews? Volunteer Bible Teacher Suspected of Molesting Two Girls in Garden Grove Home

Guardado.jpg

Christopher Joseph Guardado, a 48-year-old Garden Grove man and volunteer Bible teacher at Calvary Chapel Pacific Coast in Westminster, is sitting in Theo Lacy Jail on suspicion of molesting two girls under the age of 14.

He was arrested on July 12 and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The girls told their families last week they had been molested by a family friend, according to Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale of the Garden Grove Police Department. Guardado is a volunteer teacher of 1st and 2nd-grade Bible study classes at the church, authorities said.

According to police, Guardado and the alleged victims, as well as their families, socialized together through the church. The girls told detectives they had been victimized numerous times over the past two years, but most of the abuse happened at Guardado's home in Garden Grove, police said.

Guardado allegedly last molested the girls in June, authorities said. The Orange County Register reports that Guardado was charged with two felony counts of lewd acts with a minor on Jan. 1, 2011.

For a church that hates Catholics, Calvary Chapel seems to be doing their best to imitate pedo-priests.

The Garden Grove Police Department is working with the Orange County District Attorney's office on what charges to file against Guardado. The Garden Grove Police Department is asking anyone with additional information or any additional victims to contact Det. Aaron Nelson at 714-741-5800.

"JOSH DULANEY" wrote in his article, "For a church that hates Catholics, Calvary Chapel seems to be doing their best to imitate pedo-priests."   Journalist like him should be more considerate in stating their personal opinions versus something factual.  Is it a fact or is it Mr. Dulaney's own personal opinion that Calvary Chapel hates Catholic?  I want to know why he said that.  Do you truly believe that Calvary Chapel is trying to imitate pedo-priests?  I also like to know why he said that.  That's too bad that journalist like Josh Dulaney makes false accusations.

The pastor at Calvary Chapel Pacific Coast is ungracious and as judgmental as they come. People there are too afraid to show real selves. Very sad place.

I would not be suprised if most of these comments are from members of Calvery Chapel, but as a former member I will confess Calvery Chapel destroyed my life as well as the lives of my family members. Traditionally we were raised to believe virtues are our moral values until the day my grand parents died which freaked out my mother about death. As a result she ran to Calvery Chapel for hope and comfort which of course was not denied. From that point every sunday among other days of the week for extra curricular studies my bothers and I were dragged off to Calvery Chapel whether we liked it or not. I had began to notice a sudden change in my mothers attitude towards life.

Once a settled in member of the church she became very judgemental, angry, and malicious towards other people and their beliefs. Before Calvery Chapel she was never like this. She was an educated woman who made educated choices for herself as well as the family she was raising but one day that all vanished from her life. Everything in our home became christ related with a vengance and very confusing to her family and the people she once knew

The message Calvery Chapel led had a different effect on my borthers and I. My younger bother Joey who was once an accomplished musician and decent athlete in his youth lived his life through kindness and dignity without the bible but was victimized by many Calvery Chapel youth pastors who convinced him he was a sinner for playing "secular" music. When the youth pastors told my mother about this she took his guitar away from him unless he chose to play christian music. Joey became angry and fusterated and began to rebel, untill he had children at age 16 and 19. Today he now lives his life through financial struggle and uncertainty.

My middle brother, Edward, was a calm and gentle soul who enjoyed art, literature and movies. These interest all dissapeared when Calvery Chapel shunned his paintings along with books he enjoyed reading and studying in exchange for the bible. Throughout the years Edward began to hang out with a bad crowd and got caught up in drugs because of addicts he met at Calvery Chapel. Today he is an addict, pessimistic, tattooed, and in and out of prison. I have not heard from him in 8 years.

As for myself, I was once a decent surfer, athlete, motivated academicaly, and enjoyed the outdoors. As soon as Calvery Chapel entered my life I slowly became mentally ill through major cases of depression and anxiety because Calvery Chapel convinced the once most closest and precious person next to me, my mother, that my life is not enough without Jesus. Today and recently I was diagnosed with a sever case of Major Depressive Disorder. I am now dependent on Marijuana to cope and have confined myself to homelessness and have been arrested 2 times for being homeless. I can never return home to my parents for fear of more mental abuse and I worry sometimes more than every that death is all I have to look forward to in life.

My father believes, thanks to my mom, all of his sons are losers and it is his fault for the way we turned out; however regardless of all the trials Calvery Chapel has induced on my family I am now happy to say I am slowly coming back to those virtues I had set for myself in my younger days which were and are the foundation of my morals and values.

This comment is not meant to offend anybody or anyone in association with Calvery Chapel but rather to shed light on the message Calvery Chapel sent through my own experience which I leave you the reader of this comment to decided for yourself if Calvery Chapel is an acceptable representative of god.

Did you address these issues with the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Church?

@MoralsByreasoning Listen lady, I hate to tell you this, but not all Calvary Chapels are run by the same people and maybe you didn't mean to offend but look again. You came off as rude and judgmental. I agree that YOUR Calvary seems to be very judgmental, but your brothers still made the choices they did. Calvary never held a gun to their head telling them to act the way they did.

I agree with some of the comments here. I do need to point out that because this occurred in a church group it is most heinous. However, this and much worse happens to secular / non-Religious people on a more regular basis...But I guess it goes unreported because it is expected outside the Church...

""For a church that hates Catholics, Calvary Chapel seems to be doing their best to imitate pedo-priests.""

What does this have to do with the alleged pedophile?  Please elaborate on why you state that Calvary Chapel "hates" Catholics.  Why put such a  demeaning statement in your article.  You do understand it reflects not only on you and your writing abilities but the organization you work for.  This is not journalism.  Perhaps you need to go back to school and learn what journalism really is.  Do you even know what you are writing about??

Bad people exist everywhere in the world. Calvary Chapels does their best to screen out the bad ones. Calvary Chapel doesn't hate Catholics. Just because you don't believe in all the Catholic Church's traditions, doesn't mean you hate them.

How do you know it is a choice? Did you choose to be heterosexual? I don't think so!

Benalvillar

Homosexuality is not a choice. If it were why would any rational person choose that sexual orientation knowing all the prejudice and discrimination they are going to victims of.

It's not that Christians are better or worse than anybody else (I happen to think they are worse) it is that they are such hypocrites by judging everyone else.

dr.pepper-drinker

Some are! but not all Christians are so judgmental and the ones that are worse? They think they can sin all they want and just get mercy

This what happens when you have a organization that is so full of itself and always pooking at the "faults" of others

dr.pepper-drinker

Dude the organization had nothing to do with this guy. He volunteered at the church, had no priors with anything like this and a wife and five kids. How on earth could they have known that he would be nuts like this?

I think any parent should watch over thier children like hawks!!  This is not a CC problem this can occur anywhere.  If your to stupid to understand that anyone to include police, the clery, news reporters, and you Alex, are not to be trusted!!!

It happened mostly at the house too, Calvary can't be held responsible for what people do in their own homes

Christians aren't perfect by any means. I'm Christian, I'm only 16, and I'm not perfect at all. I do bad things and think bad things every day. Christians who claim to be perfect or better than anyone else are totally wrong. The Bible makes that very clear. Putting a label on Christians saying they are all judge-mental jerks is wrong. That would be equivalent to putting a bad label on everyone of a specific ethnicity. As I said before, Christians aren't perfect, we're sinners just like everyone. Any Christian who judges gays (or anyone) and calls them bad names is in the wrong. God loves everyone equally, Christian or not. God is a God of love. God doesn't hate gays, he loves everyone, so who are we to hate gays, liars, or anyone? We all do bad things. The Bible says to hate the sin but love the sinner. Also, just because someone goes to church or works at a church doesn't mean they are a Christian. That would be equivalent to someone saying just because they sit in a garage all day that they're a car. I've gone to Calvary Chapels for a long time. I personally haven't seen any hate twords Catholics. If there's anyone that hates a specific group (such as Catholics), they are completely in the wrong. As I said before, God loves everyone equally. He loves a druggie as much as He loves a pastor. As for this news report, I feel terrible for the victims. This is a very sad article.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone. Any takers? I didn't think so. If you've broken one commandment, then you are a sinner. Put the stones down and pray for the hardness in your own heart and then others. The healing only comes through the Son of God. Jesus is the one who said, 'let he who is without sin, cast the first stone'.  The crowd dropped the stones and walked away...thank you Jesus!

The sad thing is that... This happens eveywhere!  Just because it is a CHIRSTAIN man and/ or in the CHURCH.. The media is reporting it!  And in turn eveyone starts judging the church.  It is not anyones job to judge one another.  Everyone has the freedon to choose what they want to do in their life!  And inturn at the end, each one of us will be judged by Him and Him only!

Sadly, I was once close to the family. When my mother informed me of what happened I was both appalled and shocked. I never would have thought he would do that. I even used to baby sit for the kids when they were younger.
