Mars Hill Church's Mothership Launching Music Label

The Seattle-based Mars Hill Church, which recently planted a congregation right here in our fair county, is starting its own music label for the God-rock stars that play in its network of 14 fellowships.

This is typically a big step on a church's march from edgy evangelicalism to mirror-gazing irrelevance. Calvary Chapel and the Vineyard churches each have their own labels.

But Mars Hill seems to be different. We'll see.

"We believe God desires our churches to be creative, but not to sacrifice the truth of the gospel or theology for the sake of art," said Jonathan Dunn, label manager for Mars Hill Music, in a statement. "We make a conscious effort to include the theologically-rich music of traditional hymns, mixed with original songs unique to each church body, both lyrically and musically."

I think anyone dealing with current issues like this is also looking for ways to handle their future, finances, and even retirement in successful ways. One interesting story I found today that talked about this issue is an intriguing write-up about a wealthy boss that decided to do something different with his career. He left Newmont Mining, a $6.5B company, to join a tiny mining company.  Very inspiring story that dovetails many of the themes here, I figured you might like it: http://www.trefis.com/stock/fnv/articles/125627/why-a-billion-dollar-executive-is-risking-his-career-on-an-abandoned-mine-in-nevada/2012-06-11
