Bonus Points for the Bourgeoisie: Where Do We Sign Up for Karl Marx MasterCards?

If Karl Marx MasterCards become all the rave here, maybe they'll be extended to the gift cards in our Christmas stockings. A girl can dream, can't she?

Actually, Karl Marx's image on MasterCards is all the rave in East Germany, where 40 percent of those surveyed recently favor socialism.

After the jump, a look at the card that's apparently filling many East German pockets . . .


Of course, a Marx MasterCard would have to be accompanied by a clever advertising campaign were it ever to take off here.

Perhaps the commercials with holders saying, "I choose it because I use it" can be tweaked to "I choose it because banking and credit have become the most potent means of driving capitalist production beyond its own limits, and one of the most effective vehicles of crises and swindle."

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his bonus points.
