There probably won't be an invocation.

The Orange County Freethought Alliance Conference is taking place Saturday and Sunday at the University of California, Irvine, 210 C Student Center. A slew of skeptics are scheduled to talk about what they don't believe, and why they don't believe it.

The Saturday sessions run from noon to 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday's sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Featured speakers include Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptics magazine, and Dan Barker, president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

One-day or two-day passes range from $80 - $150. Student passes are $35. Save $30 by pre-registering online at Freethoughtalliance.org. Check the website for details on conference-related parties throughout the weekend.

Hmmm...

Sounds familiar... Put a little money in the basket and you get an appetizer and a sip of wine.

$80?!  F that.

But you gotta hand it to Shermer -- he's done a great job monetizing the new atheist/agnostic movement.

The money goes to a non-profit that pays for other events and billboards around OC. Travel and use of the space is not cheap so there is a cover. This is a rather entertaining event for those who enjoy the subject. Look at the price as tickets to a benefit concert. The difference is the skeptics don't say you'll burn in hell if you don't show up.

Shermer is doing this for free. The money goes to a non-profit that pays for other events and billboards around OC.
