Ron Paul Ends Campaign: Who Wins The Pot Vote?

It's being widely reported today--including right here on Navel Gazing, like one minute ago--that Ron Paul is bowing out of the 2012 presidential race, or more accurately, ceasing any campaigning in states that have yet to hold their Republican Party primary elections.

This is not good news for people who like pot.

One the one hand there's Mitt Romney, a Mormon who presumably doesn't even drink alcohol. He recently a told a wheelchair-bound man who tried to ask him about medicinal pot: "I don't support medical marijuana. Bye." Then there's Barack Obama, who smoked reefer with wild abandon while at college 30 years ago, a habit he presumably picked up at Hawaii's Punahou high school. But now he's pau with the pakalolo, brah. In case you didn't notice, he's the guy who's presiding over the complete destruction of the medical marijuana industry right now.

All of which leads to one question: Who wins the pot vote?

The good news is that you don't have to choose between Romney and Obama. According to the U.S. Federal Election Commission, there are actually 382 individuals who have filed official candidacy paperwork. There's someone named Stewart Alexis Alexander, who unlike Obama is an actual socialist from the Socialist Party USA. We don't know much else about him, including his position on marijuana, but he's from Murrietta, CA, so he's probably high.

There's also someone named Roseanne Cherri Barr, who's the candidate for the Green Party. She's from Encino and once had her own TV show--actually she apparently still does have one. Does she smoke weed? Why yes she does! Or at least that's what one would assume given that when she announced her campaign on Jay Leno's Tonight Show she said that legalizing marijuana would be her top priority

Finally, there's the Libertarian Party. As the Weekly's R. Scott Moxley reported here on Navel Gazing on May 5, former Orange County Superior Court Judge Jim Gray is running as vice president for the party, alongside former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson. If anyone means business about legalizing pot, it's Gray, who also backs a proposed ballot initiative in California to "Regulate Marijuana Like Wine."

Okay, let's hear it. If you're a stoner and aren't a convicted felon, who gets your vote this November?

I'm not a stoner, just someone who lives 40 minutes from Matamoros where they just offed, decapitated, and mutilated 30-40 people all because they don't want some rich kids smoking weed.

The US drug war is a losing war and those drug cartels are coming here. Any American who REALLY cares about this country needs to vote for anyone other than Obama and Romney. We are losing our grip on our southern half of the border. They litterally train Federal Agents to treat my area like its a war zone. BUT I STILL LIVE IN AMERICA!

If Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination, I'm voting for Gary Johnson.

As a small "L" lib I think you Paulites are hilarious....

You have more faith in your savior than most Catholics.....I hope no one kills themselves when RP actually ends his bid.

I voted for RP in 08, but now its time for GJ, Jim Gray, & the LP. Leave the bible beaters to their red label.

Remember, RON PAUL is still in the race.  Also remember, you can write him in on the ballot at the general election.  Don't give up, Vote RON PAUL 2012.

where'd you get your information from son?  Ron Paul is in it to win it.  Maybe you should talk to Ben Swann so you can get accurate information.

From Ben Swann:

The headline on Drudge says it all "Ron Paul OUT!" Link to the Washington Times article and it says "Ron Paul Ends His Hunt For Votes".The first headline is NOT TRUE.The second headline MAY BE.Either way, read through the aricle and you will see that the inference that Paul is out of the race is absolutely not true. The article explains that Paul will abandon the game of going from state to state to trying to win a popular vote that doesn't count for anything. Instead he will focus on the states that are currently holding delegate conventions.

That strategy makes a lot of sense when you have the kind of fights in Oklahoma and Arizona we saw this weekend. The State Conventions is where the nominiation will be won or lost not traveling from state to state for beauty contests.

It's a no-brainer.  Johson.  His running mate Judge Jim Gray is one of the nations leading advocates for ending the drug war.

I'm registered Republican.  If RP is not on the ballot, I'll skip voting as there is no real choice to be made.

He's not out of the race, he's just not campaigning. Oh, I get it.

Ron Paul did NOT end his campaign, he is just not spending resources on primary states in order to focus on accumulating delegates in caucus states. Nick Schou, you need to do some research before you put out articles like this.

In a poll the NORML staff heavily favored Johnson....they won't outright put their support behind him because Johnson has done event with Kampia and MPP in the past.

I like GJ and I really like the addition of OC Judge Jim Gray

if RP is not on the ballot, I wish you'd take a look at what Gary Johnson has to say.

He's waiting for Romney to implode; then he hopes to have the delegates to nominate him on the first ballot.  I think that the odds are less than 50-50 on that.  I won't say how much less.

Hmm. Maybe you're right. Call it brain fatigue on my part, despite which, I think I'm going to continue working really hard at researching more stuff, by taking a vacation for the rest of the year, without actually quitting my job, you know?
