ORIGINAL POST, MAY 14, 5:26 P.M.: Former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy Robert McClain was found guilty in an Orange County courtroom today of brutally torturing and sexually assaulting his then-wife and her lover.
The Irvine 34-year-old, who pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, must now face the same jury deciding his sanity.
He could ultimately be sentenced to life in state prison.
McClain held his now ex-wife and her boyfriend captive in September 2008, savagely beating and sexually assaulting both because he was upset over their affair.
Both victims were left badly injured, with the man suffering brain damage that required him to undergo four months of intense rehabilitation to learn to walk and talk again.
