Kelly Thomas Murder Trial Brings La-La Land Teevee Reporters and Their La-La Land Flubs

The Kelly Thomas murder trial has brought Los Angeles-based television reporters to a place quite unfamiliar to them: Orange County. As a result, many are a-bumbling and a-stumbling through their live remotes, as they've obviously got the afternoon-drive traffic back to La-La Land on their minds. Poor babies.

Now, we can't catch all the coverage, all the time, especially since we never got those digital converter boxes. (Money better spent on brown liquor, we say.) So, we turn to you, dear readers. What's the most-outrageous thing you've seen during the teevee coverage? Please share in the comments below.

To get us started, here is something Dan Kaufman posted on Facebook:

I caught the Fox 11 news report last night and it was so thoroughly sickening and enraging. First, the woman they apparently pulled in off the street to report called him Kelly Tompson--repeatedly! (And she was clearly reading from the teleprompter.) After warning everyone to leave the room because the images were too graphic, she proceeded to suggest there was creedence to the idea that his bruising was due to the iv fluids doctors gave him in an effort to save his life!!! Oh, hell no! Hard to even think about it now, it's so outrageous... Keep getting the word out, brotha.

I only found two videos from the preliminary hearing on MyFoxLA.com. The one I suspect Mr. Kaufman is referring to begins (after a brief commercial) in the middle of the field reporter's story, so perhaps the "Kelly Tompson" bit was edited out. That one also included no embed code. Here is the second video below, with no such slip-ups.

Interesting here, though, is Fox LA's legal expert, Robin Sax, near the end of the clip, suggesting DA Tony Rackauckas is presenting key evidence he'd normally save for trial in the prelim because either: a) he knows the case is going to be tossed, so he's at least outraging the public, or b) he knows he'll lose at trial so he's trying to force the defense into a plea bargain. Either outcome would be more infuriating than getting Kelly's name wrong.

I have never had an issue with KTLA's reporting, but I definitely did not appreciate the comments made by this TeeVee reporter.  He obviously had an opinion that he wanted to share in defense of Manual Ramos: 2 minutes and 20 seconds into this video clip the reporter starts his comment by saying, "it's interesting to point out..."http://www.ktla.com/videogalle...

Robin Sax is worthless sack of dung. Half the time she has no idea what the real facts of a case are (that goes for the majority of the media).

I'm so sick of hearing this line coming out of her pie hole:

"When I was a prosecutor at the LA District Attorney's Office."

Yeah, we all know you're a lawyer and a talking head on tv. I'm not impressed & I would like it if Fox would get you off of my tv.

Rod Bernsen was never a lawyer, but he knew a whole hell of a lot more about the common sense aspects of law then Ms. Sax.

CNBC, NBC and all the other one sided liberal media stations may be too busy tooting Obama's horn, so to speak, to notice anything else going on. When will the pres. step in and comment like he did with the case in Florida? Oh, silly me, kelly is white. When is jesse and his herd coming to town to demand justice? oh, silly me Kelly is white. When will the Mexilatins converge on the city and fill the schools demanding answers (while speaking other than English) oh, silly me Kelly is white. What is wrong with Fox news other than they report the news with a conservative slant? The other stations report with a liberal slant? Duh...

The problem with fox news is that it's a right wing slant w/misleading FACTS. They've flat out lied repeatedly to influence people who will believe anything fox says anyway. I'm moderate and both sides have their OPINIONS but I do my research when I hear people making claims, Fox's track record is way too hypocritical.

Fart man. If the truth bothers you I would suggest you turn on CNN and sit there like a lemming and absorb ALL the  slant they offer.  Specifically address the comments i expressed and the un truth in them. thanks

I am Mescalero Apache and hispanic here in Arizona and I can assure you that this crime sickens me to my soul.  I stand with all that demand justice for Kelly Thomas, God rest his soul.  I have three sons and a daughter that choose to live in Orange county so I worry as a father all the time.  I totally understand your frustration which IS justified, But I stand with seeking justice for Kelly and his family.

Sgt. unfortunately  Orange County has turned into a sludge pit of murder, gangs, kids killing kids. Barely an eye brow is raised. Appreciate the support and open mind.

I don't see how this case can be tossed? Are they not going to have the on call neurosurgeon testify? There is no way a person with injuries like these would survive. There is no question that he died because of blows to the head. The brain swells & suffocates and dies, he was brain dead because these cops beat him to a pulp. Legitimately this is thought to be thrown out in court?

Hey, remember 20 years ago when all those cops that beat Rodney King to a pulp on camera all got off scot-free? Good to see so much has changed, right?!?
