No Democrat Running Against Janet Nguyen in Supe Race, Further Showing Stupidity of OC Dem Leadership

Categories: Politics

You know, I've been so wrapped up in promoting my Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, that I lost track of who was going to face off against Janet Nguyen in her reelection bid for the First Supervisorial District seat. I knew Rocco was going to face off against her, but what Democrat would take her on to give the party the only supe seat they will ever take?

As it turns out: NOT A SINGLE ONE. And that's Reason #234,329 why Democratic Party of Orange County chair Frank Barbaro is an incompetent pendejo.

"To be real honest with you, we couldn't get our act together," Barbaro told Orange County Register reporter Andrew Galvin. "We could not get consensus on a candidate...[there's] a real groundswell of people in the Democratic Party that like Janet Nguyen, think she is fairly moderate and she is somebody who we shouldn't be opposing...it would have just been too divisive were we to have floated somebody in that race."

Now THAT'S leadership! Barbaro is in support of a Republican who has trashed Mexican immigrants and the famed nonprofit Latino Health Access--and that's something to like? Instead, Barbaro has allowed the 69th State Assembly District Democratic primary to become a Royal Rumble that's allowing three Democrats with name recognition (SanTana councilwoman Michele Martinez, labor man Julio Perez, and longtime pol Tom Daly) to beat themselves dead. Now THAT'S leadership!

I've long maintained that the only reason the Democratic Party has any power outside the local level in Orange County is because they lucked out on demographic reality with the browning of central OC. With Barbaro ceding control of the only supervisorial district where Democrats matter (and don't forget that Barbaro pulled the same shit in 2008, when Nguyen handily beat someone named Dina Nguyen), one wonders whether Barbaro would rather Latinos have no political power than token seats. Fuck, local Dems: boot this empty, high-priced suit already...

The fact of the matter is Janet Nguyen has been no friend to Liberty and Latinos.

While on the city of Garden Grove council, she held an quick news conference when an Assembly seat opened, calling for a increasing policing powers and anti-latino policing efforts like those in the city of Costa Mesa. After another highly more electable Assembly candidate emerged, she stopped politicizing the INS jailer thing. She brought "anti- Latino political strategy back when she ran for the County seat and the game between her and Van Tran's candidate was "who can be the most anti-Latino?" Janet won the seat with a nice vietnamese written letter that supposedly lumped all Latinos as illegals and said she was against illegals more than her opponent.Bottom line, she used the hate scare tactic against Latinos to win her seat on the board and she should have been challenged this time. Because of that alone, there should have been more involvement from these so-called Latino organizations who are so willing to call for a Lawsuit, but how about finding a candidate who is against racist grandstanding as a candidate. I'm sure there are plenty of potential candidates out there, irregardless of race or even party.

I think in protest of everything so screwed up about this race, we should either encourage everybody to support MR. Rocco or if they don't appreciate someone who prefers Ketchup write in as a "write-in candidate" Gustavo Arellano(Or just write Mexican)

California is a prime example of what happens when apolitical party, in this case democrats, gets stuck in their beliefs and starts the slippery slope of socialism. You just can't give away more than comes in, regulations are killing new business growth. Taxes have historically hurt business and stifled spending. Lowering taxes promotes new business, people spend more money so the revenues increase and it's a win situation for everyone.  Stop the rhetoric that the republicans only get richer. Everyone wins, it's been proven. This country is going to hell. Expendable income is down, folks are holding on to their money longer and not even buying Gustavo's book. As a state we need to come together for the good of ALL of us. Sure some do better than others but the majority do better, that's important.

Cant you just be happy that a young minority female is excelling in her career? regardless of what letter is behind her name it sets a good example for other minority females.

BTW with the new book you might find yourself creeping into Gov Moonbeams new tax rate... Maybe then you'll see that its not such a great idea!

I am amused by the "cheerleading" section of the OCDEMS, who frequently seem to come from Long Beach????

The Democratic Party is in shambles and you have bloggers, who can't seem to keep quiet about othe bloggers and other bloggers who just can't seem to keep quiet.

What happened to Galvin anyway? He dissapeared after shilling for Perez.

Where is Joe Dunn when you need him?...............Staying as far away as possible.

Daly's the former mayor of Anaheim and would have been a carpetbagger to move to the First District.

Perez moved into Santa Ana just to run for state assembly so that if elected he could pay off his past due credit card bills and student loans with a campaign paid for on the dime of the public employee unions. Perez will have a hard time in the field for AD69 and would get creamed by Supervisor Janet Nguyen.

At least Martinez was smart enough to know she'd get throttled by Nguyen and instead decided to give it the old college try for state assembly.

Jose Solorio decided to take a pass because the knew that Nguyen would have put an end to his political career in a bad way. The problem for Solorio is that he's got nowhere elese to go, so his political career really is over anyway.

Let's all remember that Nguyen, a twenty something UCI grad, beat Tom Umberg, a UCLA/Hastings grad, army Vet, etc etc.

And they say we should be color blind. Guess that only applies to whites.

Well, I can finally agree with Klavito about something, though I don't think 'lucked out' is exactly right. The Democrats have been deliberately 'browning' the whole country for years, while the Republicans have been (1) listening to money grubbing cheap labor whores and their applied autism afflicted libertarian wing shills and (2) too busy wetting their pants at being called 'racist' to do anything about it.

The State of California is headed for bankruptcy with Jerry at the wheel. He has the support of the labor unions yet there is something to remember. ALL contracts become null and void in case of bankruptcy. The labor unions (state employees) will have to re negotiate and their pension agreements will be the first thing to go. The state is going to hell and you can't blame the Republicans, the Democrats control everything.

I guess no one wanted to throw good money away in a rigged system. I cannot wait to vote against all republicans.

Gustavo is such a sore loser!! Why don't you try to run against her unless your afraid to face her. I'm just saying. Viva Los Conservadores!!

I think the stupidity of the democratic leadership extends farther than this. jerry brown is proposing/demanding and increase in taxes to deal with the budget, temporary he says. He wants to tax the wealthy at a higher rate. The problem with that is wealthier Californian's are leaving, their incomes fluctuate with the market and most of all it is darn right mean.  Tax revenues are down as stiffer regulations are chasing companies to other states. How much of your check each week is a fair amount to pay in taxes?  A survey conducted asked voters what they thought a "fair' percentage would be for wealthy American's to pay. The common answer was 30%. What they fail to realize is they pay more than that already. 10% of the population pay 70% of the taxes.  A CEO of a food chain that recently opened a restaurant in texas was interviewed. He said that in California from bare dirt to groundbreaking was a minimum of 18 months due to regulations, permits, bribes, grafts, just kidding about the permits, anyway in Texas 8 weeks. Why? Our State is in crisis, the ways of the past are not working. We need sensible solutions and quickly. We cannot spend more than we bring in. We need a new voice. Jerry has been in political arena for 40 years, he fails as a leader. We have enough money for programs to help our colleges, schools, those in need. We can't seem to budget it properly. ALL state workers need to help out, the union greed is stifling. What does this have to do with this forum? IDK.
