Chad Wanke, OC Vector Control District Trustee/Placentia Councilmember, Smacked Down for Missing Too Many Board Meetings

Wanke: A wanker?
Do you know what the Orange County Vector Control District (OCVCD) does? Neither do I. But it's one of those agencies whose board of trustees is staffed by councilmembers looking to add an easy laurel to their resume, and easy bucks to their coffers.

One of those trustees is Chad Wanke, whose political day job is serving as councilmember in Placentia, specifically as mayor pro tem. He attended the montly meeting of the OCVCD in April, which came as a surprise to his fellow trustees. See, Wanke hadn't attended a single meeting this year until then, and never offered an excuse--and that got OCVCD Board President James Gomez angry.

In an April 16 letter addressed to the Placentia City Council, Gomez--who's also a La Habra councilmember--alerted Wanke and his colleagues that Wanke had missed three consecutive OCVCD meetings,  which meant Wanke was in danger of getting the boot.

"The law provides that if a Trustee ceases to discharge the duties of the office for three consecutive months," Gomez wrote, "he/she vacates his/her office unless sick or out of state with permission."

According to OCVCD director of communications Jared Dever, Wanke has yet to provide the district with reasons for missing the meetings in January, February, and March of this year, which means all of his absences remain unexcused. Not a good way to set a moral example as mayor pro tem for the kiddies of Placentia, playing hooky on the taxpayer's dime, Chaddy Boy--what's up?

there is a difference between reporting the news and gossip. this sounds like it fits into the latter. maybe instead spreading rumors, you try talking to the person in question instead of slandering someone who is busy. I may not agree with his politics, but he deserves a chance to defend himself, but I didn't see any mention of you trying to contact him. be a reporter, not a gossip column. this is why you are just a blogger, and NOT a reporter.

Surely there are some things Chad can do to be redeemed for his peccaudillos such as return the money If paid for attendance, resign from the appointment so that someone more mindful of their obligations can get on with job, apologize to the voters of Placetia to whom he is responsible and not just his fellow council members or maybe all of the above.

It would have been nice to hear his side. Oh, but that's right, this is the OCW. And, even worse, it's Gus posting.

For everyone's information, a vector is any insect or arthropod, rodent or other animal of public health significance capable of harboring or transmitting the causative agents of human disease, or capable of causing human discomfort or injury. In plain terms, they deal with things like mosquito abatement, and keeping the rodent population down. Gus, I'm surprised you didn't know this since you are the very essence of a vector. You've been making all of us readers sick for years.

Dave: Chad can respond here when he wants—the fact remains that he missed three meetings and has yet to offer an excuse. And I'm glad I sicken the likes of your pathetic ass—that's what we're here to do at your favorite infernal rag!

You are right about a few things. He can respond when he wants. But he probably won't because most likely he doesn't even know the OCW exists. And, for good reason. I'm sure he has better things to do. We all know he owes his fellow trustees an explanation, but that will probably come privately.

I don't know. Maybe you could tell me?

That's why he told one of our reporters he loves the paper. How does it feel to be a pendejo who talks out of his ass at all times?
