Economists have this thing called 'revealed preferences' -- how people act, what they do. Well, tens of millions of Mexicans have moved to the formerly overwhelmingly white United States over the last 4 decades. Because that formerly overwhelmingly white society a great economy, fairly decent environmental regulations, a social safety net, etc.

Look I'm sure there are great things about Mexico. I think the ties to family are great--then again Anglo individualism is probably one reason our country prospered. I like the fact Mexicans still have decent sized families, and wish more of our women did the same, younger, instead of trying to have a kid at 39. But overall, look at where people move to.

I don't understand why its so difficult to be "American" but celebrate your heritage? No one is asking Mexicans to stop identifying as such but why do they still want to fly the Mexican Flag? Sure its appropriate on Cinco de Drinko just like all the Irish flags on St Paddy's... What If I were to fly the Prussian flag with the Eagle and the Iron Cross? Certainly Prussia predated Hitler.. But what will I be identified as?

Even Gustavo can't harsh my mellow today. Why? Turns out in the shooting at the Jewish school in France wasn't the work of 'neo-Nazis' are first (wishfully) reported, but by -- surprise surporse -- a Maghrebi. All the typical lefty press from the Gruaniad to the LA Jewish Journal jumped the gun and now look like idiots... but I digress.

People think 'culture' is food, or banda, or 'ballet folklorico'. But that stuff is just superficial. Culture is the totality of way of live. And frankly the Anglo-American way of life is better -- at least judging from motion away from Mexican culture and towards white culture. So while it may be cool for a few individuals to be 'as Mexican as they wanna be', pretty soon you get, well, Santa Ana, and then Cameron County (colonias) and then Mexico itself.

Actually lot of people think the French are wussies. Totally wrong. They do not mess around -- ask the Rainbow Warrior crew. Sure they lost to the Germans, but thanks like losing to the Yankees in Beisbol. I was fortunate enough to work with the French military in my time in, and they were great. Also, its bullshit about there being 'anti-American'. It's true their government pursues what it perceives to be in its national interests -- and its true that they are proud of their culture, but I have a dozen stories about how they really appreciate the best of American culture.
