Newport Beach To Get Rid of Fire Pits

Categories: Main

That was fast. Last night, the Newport Beach City Council voted unanimously to remove the 60 fire pits at Corona del Mar and Balboa Pier. Goodbye summer bonfires. Au revoir to that guy who always whips out a guitar. So long to the bits of marshmallow that always fly into your hair and are a bitch to wash out.

The council listened to a string of complaints from residents who believe the smoke from the fire rings is a health hazard. According to Corona Del Mar Today, a man named Charles Farrell called himself a "victim of slow asphyxiation," saying, "Before I go to sleep at night, I put my face in front of the purifier to remember what clean air smells like." The agony of beachside living.

Others complained that the pits attract unruly crowds (also known as "people under 40"), and can lead to injuries. In Huntington Beach, a father is suing the city after his kid fell into one.

The audience applauded the vote. Removing the fire rings, however, will take some time--the city first needs to get permission from the state Coastal Commission. Some residents are trying to stop that from happening. David Ruiz started a petition asking the commission to deny the permits needed to remove the pits. He writes that the pits "stand for a tradition that all southern California residents can enjoy and should have the chance to experience with their families for years to come."

Umm...this is public beach. They should not buy million dollar views on a public beach if they do not want to deal with the public.

I think Mr. Farrell should sell his beachfront property, and move to the HIGH DESERT where the gentle afternoon breezes keep the air fresh and crisp...That would put another much needed home on the market. Heck, I always wanted to live at the beach when I retire. I think I could "TOLERATE" a little smoke from a family roasting marshmellows or hotdogs on a holiday weekend or having a warm fire while watching the sunset. It's just like camping...there's nothing like the smell of percolating coffee and bacon cooking in the outdoors,.....so come on, get over it, THE PITS HAVE TO STAY. It's a SoCal tradition!!!

Alot of great memories of those summer pit parties in the 70's thru the 90's... If we can organize a farewell fire pit party right in front of ol' Farrell's house - lemme kno' and I will fly up to be there!

SAVE THE PITS!!!

The worst recession the US has seen since the 1920's and the rich folks want to take away one of our most favorite places to go during the summer time. Because they have lived there for over 50 years with fire pits but now it is affecting their health. With not one health case ever of fire pit smoke death or cancer.

I AGREE. THE SMOKE THAT COMES OFF THOSE PITS IS AWFUL. WILL HUNTINGTON BE NEXT??

OK! WE GET IT!

See that key on the left about 3 up from the bottom labled "Caps Lock"? If you push that you'll have the choice of typing upper OR lower case letters. It's actually more effective in getting your point across.

When I camp I don't have a fire, I hate the smoke. But I don't rant and rale because the folks next to me have a fire. Some people really, really, reeeeealllly love a fire, the romance of camping and all that. I'll accept a bit of discomfort rather than trying to destroy their joy.

It is like moving next to an oil mine and then asking it be removed. Well this is a tourist mine.

when the houses where built along the coast they knew the beaches where the publics and that was fine with them. They dealt with that. So there is historical common law, economic substantial impact, along with basic law of you did it but they can't.

See the ultra rich grown elderly. See it as a source of disgust for their elderly years to sit in their homes and watch the beach. The People on the other hand see the bon fire pits as a way to release stress and enjoy lifes most precious things which is time together and a simple international world renouned OC beach bon fire baby. So we hit back full throttle, as this to a rich that is so rich he is power is attacking the poor folks at utmost rich snubery.

The generations to come of poor business in the area that benefit heavily from thorough fair business based on the bon fires are under attack. They will lose substantial market shares. As a huge portion comes from the thorough fair. While also future memories of children and teens and young adults never having been to a beach bon fire will be destroyed. As during the summer the pits fill up quickly and if we take more away that in aggregate is a very destructive outlet for poor folks to get to live their drearms of a simple bbq, marshmellow roast a cuddle, a wrestle a throw of the football with their friends. because some elder rich have forgotten what it is like to be young at heart. Power to the People lets keep it equal they hit we hit.

If there are pictures of under age woman at Mr Farrells house after a few bonfires. Which I believe as tools where in hand by the ladies. Let them know the bounty is open and protection is theirs.

I also want teams 125-250 moved on the city councils for any corruption or activities beyond the law. As I hate when rich folks attack poor folks places of fun and attraction. Investigations begin, they attacked the poor people first crows perry.

It is like moving next to a major highway or thorough fair. Then stating after being glad the major road was there for quick access to the freeway. That in your elderly years you wish to have it taken down. That is like moving next to a golf course for which many years of fun and interesting times was had. Then stating that because people are constantly in your front view that the whole thing should be removed. Or it is like moving to Alaska then being upset that wild life lives in your backyard. Nothing you can do about these things in the court of law. The idea that smoke creates some kind of health risk, was a risk taken in the real estate clause of the house bought. It was a well known part of the area, just like any other amusement cite or attraction for state or local taxes. Which yearly drive to the state taxes exceeding over $1 million dollars because of a simple thing like a bon fire. Not to mention the millions driven to the cities because folks come for the peaceful night bonfires. Which are properly as per health wind and any type of risk placed far enough away from the homes for smoke to dissipate or blow away.

I wonder how many young ladies on this map i have of his life are of age and are of a proper drinking limit that he invited back to his home and quarters. I see they are still living around here.

To the Farrells the enclave poor rich may be afraid to go against you ultra rich. But the international macro world leaders and so rich we are poor, are not afraid to go against you and to tear you a new one for destroying poor folks little bit of fun they have because the once fun youth have grown to elderly poo faces. So prepare for paper wars, your ultra rich is nothing compared to whole countries and major army ownerships my ultra friend.

The state has designated that a fun area, like a hunting range, river, theme park, bar allowance or otherwise. The city nor its population that has once enjoyed the fun area now grown elderly wish to stop the states designated fun areas, is not proper. There has been beach movies made there, there has been millions of people enjoying their beach time there, there has been trillions of dollars brought in the area. All just in the attraction idea of a bonfire at the beach. Folks drive far and travel far to go there. Then stop at restaurants, gas stations they shop buy things. If they are removed it is like stating that those who move next to a hunting range, shooting range, river, theme park, or bar can be allowed to destroy the designated fun areas because they have grown old and no longer wish to enjoy the areas. No the millions of people each year that enjoy the cite against The Farrell Families. Along with the People of California against Farrells property. If Mr. Farrell is so rich as to not care about this own business losing market shares due to the destruction of the historical designated fun area. The rest of the people in the State of California due care as it is a state beach not a city beach. Enjoy the rebuttal of the poor people Mr Farrell, and our little fun places we have should not be taken away by the rich who can afford luscious vactions to private beaches or to lose business for their utlra rich daddies hand me down property that they had no clue how to manage or keep up as it is on cost and they just incur the income.

Rider IThats a big poor folks hell no, rich elderly can move and let the new youth move in to enjoy the area and keep it vibrant, especially this brat in his youth who was well known to frequent beach bon fires and invite folks back to have fun.

That is like moving next to a bar and then complaining after going there for years in their youth and having a great time. That the bar is to loud and it draws a roudy crowd. I mean Farrells have property in which mutiple bars are on next to homes. Those homes never have elderly folks as the elderly grow up and out. So make the same complaint about the Farrells establishments that bring in rowdy crowds that he is making thousands of dollars off each month on the property they own. Destroy his businesses if he wishes to destroy funds. As a matter of fact some of his properties are way overdue for inspection and I do believe from my last inspection that this man is not properly dealing with this businesses as they should be done. I found over $100,000 in charges on the majority of his beach front property. Two can play this elderly game.

This is like moving next to the Arizona river and stating that you do not like groups of young people making noise by the river as they splash around and enjoy the sunshine and open water. Noise pollution I am slowly being dephed to death. No your not you just grew up in a young person's area. So move out do not make the long standing area of fun for the world become old like you are. This Farrell man in his youth used to seriously enjoy the beach bonfires I should know, he is one of the ultra rich on my mapping systems. Now he is old and wants the place to become old. No, you want old move to Vegas with the buffet lines and gambling.

The counter opt calls a detection device with a controller go and sit in front of Will Farrells brother's place. Which as this man I have seen before should know if they take the fire pits that a lot of businesses that rent on their property will lose income from those going there to have bonfires, wedding bon fires, group bonfires, and family bonfires. As such, I seriously doubt that if a detection device was placed in front of the homes of this overly rich man. That it would show any damage from the fire pits. As in my many travels I have been to the OC and had a beach bonfire or two, and when I left the sand to to go the stores and walk past the homes at night I could not smell the smoke especially if my windows where closed or high in the air.

That is like saying that folks that live next to a farm and they moved there knowing that there was animals there that go poo. Should be allowed to move the farms. The idea that fires in Newport affect the living of those at the beach is so sad. I am so sorry your muti million dollar homes on a beach you do not own and is part of the State not your city, and not your property should be come something that you control. If the fires bother you then move. The idea of the beach is historically bonfires, friends hanging out, kids going to the beach, guitars, marshmallows, friends, summer fun. Along with that the idea of removing the bonfires will kill the crowds that each vacation time travel in their RV's just to go there to have bonfires. I do not understand why overly rich pampered folks should be allowed to ruin the fun of others, because they are to dumb to go oh look they have fire pits here. MMMM if I do not want to smell the fires and the ocean breeze then maybe I should not live there. The Salt air alone causes more damage to lungs and houses than does the fire pits.

How dare these people ruin the ancient historical fun of the beach and the adventure of going there. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax and consumption are at stake. As if the fire pits go so do the travelers who travel from across the globe and nation to come here to enjoy the OC beach bon fires. Which are internationally known for beautiful beach bonfires.

Charles Farrell called himself a "victim of slow asphyxiation"  Thats funny... I call him a rich asshole who moved into a neighborhood which the pits were already present... Kind of like moving next to an airport and complaining about the noise.

It's just like those snobs in Malibu who have homes right on the public beach and have put up gates so the public has no access...
