Quarterback Matt Leinart, the pride of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana and USC in La-La Land, has been cut by the Houston Texans.

It marks the second time in two years that the lefty with a reputation for hearty partying has been let go. The Texans picked Leinart up after the Arizona Cardinals released their onetime starter.

Drafted 10th overall by Arizona in 2006, the former Heisman Trophy winner in four seasons with the Cards and two with the Texans threw for 3,950 yards with 15 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He stepped in when the playoff-bound Texans' Matt Shaub suffered a season-ending injury in November, and in Week 12 completed 10-of-13 passes for 57 yards against Jacksonville. But Leinart suffered a fracture in his throwing shoulder during what is now his final game with Houston.

Can Leinart wash away the rep?
The Los Angeles Times' Sam Farmer wonders if free-agent Leinart will hook up with his former USC coach Pete Carroll, who is now at the helm of the Seattle Seahawks.
