OC Pioneers Who Were Klan Members: Harry Winchell, Brea's First City Marshal

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for babyklan.jpg
Man, who WASN'T a Klan member in the early days of Brea, ESPECIALLY in its power structre? (Actually, there were a couple of souls--maybe eight?). You can see below the many Kluckers who helped lead Brea in its early days, who made sure it was such a gabacho town that it makes the Balboa Bay Club seem about as gabacho as SanTana.

Add another list to the name: Harry Winchell, a rig builder by trade who became Brea's first city marshal.

Winchell became marshal in 1917, serving for just a couple of years. His only real contribution to the department was setting a template for future Brea cops that membership in the KKK was not only advantageous, but almost a prerequisite, a philosophy that the current-day Huntington Beach Police Department still keeps near and dear to their hearts...

Tune in every Monday around 5 p.m. for the latest entry exposing Orange County city fathers who were Klan members!

Hey Gustavo!

Where is our next issue of the most boring serial article in the world?

In 1917 a Brea fire Marshall made it mandatory for all future Brea cops to belong to the KKK and it is this fact that elains why Huntington Beach cops belong to,the KKK. I bet your mind is as beautiful as John Nash's mind.

hey arrellano, who cares, you get paid to tell a better story than this. too bad a lot of white people died in wars that saved this nation so you could sit down and write a story like this. who cares what he believed and others. what are you trying to prove? why dont you write something that shows the bad side of mexicans like the brown berets or the typical gang member?

why to Mexican parents teach their 3 year old children to taunt me with "chiiiine chiiine"?

Winchell personally lynched three Negroes, eight Mexicans, and an Eye-talian bootlegger.

Oh wait, that didn't happen, because the Klan in OC engaged in next to no violence.

Is your life that pathetic, coward, that you have to leave comments about something you hate? You know what? Although I said I'd never reveal your name, that doesn't mean others can't. Scheming until you man up...

Well, that makes it OK.

Not as tiresome as you hiding behind a pseudonym, coward.

I get paid to tell the stories I want, so what's your point?

Where is the Monday April 2nd issue of your non-sensical pointless OC Klan bad boy series.  There is supposed to be what, 1200 names on the list - or something like that.  Did you run out of names of some notariety?

Or did you get fucking bored of the entire mess, like many of us ??
