Denis Lyons, Notorious Pedo-Priest, Pleads Guilty to Molesting Boy

Lyons: No more Brownie to take care of him

Everyone on Earth knew that Denis Lyons was a boy-molester and called him that--everyone except the Diocese of Orange. Oh, Bishop Tod D. Brown knew about Lyons' predilections--he even removed him from St. Edward the Confessor in Dana Point, a veritable Club Pedo over the years--but being the coward that he is, Brownie always couched any criticism of Lyons with "allegedly." Lyons "allegedly was a pedophile, even though the Orange diocese settled more than a few lawsuits against him for millions. Lyons "allegedly" molested, even though the Orange County district attorney's office charged him back in 2002. "There's no conviction," would say the apologists and Orange diocese flak, desperately trying to cover themselves with the law, a law they only seek for themselves.

Can't do it anymore, pendejos: Lyons pleaded guilty today to molesting a boy in the 1990s.

Lyons admitted to four felony counts of lewd conduct with a child younger than 14, but is only going to get a year in the county jail--pathetic, but that's a blog post for another time. In the meanwhile, this only shows again the lengths to which the Orange diocese apologized, defended, and covered up for their pedo-priests over the years--heckuva job, Brownie!

It'll never stop, unfortunately the best we can hope for is to try to reduce it.

I like the idea of public flogging, though. A person assumes a position where protecting the weak is an explicit mandate and violates that trust in the sickest manner, then the establishment protects them instead of vigorously executing their responsibility, thereby casting smut on all the (vast majority, I have no doubt as a non-Catholic) good ethical folks in the clergy, among even more serious evils. Flogging is too good for them, come to think of it.

I was abused by Lyons in 1966, while attending a Catholic school in Bellflower. He called me out of class to the sacristy,where he demanded to hear a "confession" of my impure thoughts. I was 12 at the time. During my "confession" he held me to his body while he masturbated on me.

I understand his actions grew worse, later on.

People like Lyons are predators. They don't change. The Catholic Church admits to knowing about his abusive actions as early as 1979. I suspect they knew earlier. Yet, they kept him employed until 2002.

As child abuse is a felony, the Catholic Church harbored a criminal in Lyons. End of story.

Look, Klavito, I know you hate St. Edwards because it is named after an Anglo-Saxon king, its parishioners are mostly white and fairly well off, it's school has grown and is packed, and the church on the hill is carrying your Raza's little chapel in Capo Beach (Filipe de Jesus). Or maybe you're pissed because Kobe got married there to his Latina.

But as far as I can tell, absolutely no abuse has occurred at St. Edwards. Lyons pled guilty to molestation that happened when he was at some parish in Costa Mesa. Likewise the other priests you've named at St. Edwards, all of their crimes where at other parishes, some decades prior to them coming to St. Edwards.

BTW, for non-Catholics, Catholics, unlike Evangelicals, Congregationalists, etc, have little say in who gets posted to their parishes, and parish folk typically don't know a lot about a priest before he arrives.

I'm not defending Brown--I'm against the Catholic hierarchy based on their insane position on immigration. I am defending the people of St. Edwards parish, who have spent a lot of time and money making a successful community, church, and school.

I'm not a practicing Catholic -- I worship Wotan now!

But I know people at St. Edwards, I like them, and I don't want their parish harmed, or Dana Point harmed. I don't know of any child abuse happening *at* the parish, and so far I haven't seen any evidence of it. There was one priest that got involved with a woman while at the church -- that's pretty scandalous, but she was of age.
