Promised Land Sees Israel Through the Eyes of Surfers

A film about surfers of different faiths coming together in Israel, of all places, makes its U.S. premiere at a sold-out screening in Dana Point this evening.

Promised Land, which was directed by Todd Morehead and produced by Morehead and Carlsbad Christian nonprofit Walking on Water, screens at 6:30 p.m. at Capo Beach Calvary in  Capistrano Beach. Check after the jump for other local places you can see the film before it moves to Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

First, pro surfer Peter Garaway and surfboard shapers Al Merrick and Britt Merrick traveled to Israel to meet up with the local Israeli surfers. Besides breaks, they were treated to stories of war, peace, survival and different views of God.

Those who were fortunate enough to snag tickets for tonight's screening will also be treated to a raffle, a performance by three-time surfing world champion Tom Curren and his band, and a post-film forum that includes Barney "The Surfing Rabbi" Kasdan. Those in attendance will leave with a DVD copy of the movie.

The film made its world premiere in Israel two weeks ago, and you can still see it locally Feb. 24 at the Calvary Chapel in San Juan Capistrano and May 4 in Seal Beach. Visit walkingonwater.com for more details.

It's on the Med--there's no surf in the Med.
