According to the latest California Health Interview Survey, Orange County has the second-most number of low-income adults in the state who are food insecure - defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as "limited or uncertain availability of traditionally adequate and safe foods".

Presumably, the survey didn't ask respondents about the quality of Orange County's food trucks.

The 2009 survey found that 379,000 low-income adults in the county are food insecure, second behind Los Angeles County. Percentagewise, wth 52.4 percent of low-income adults facing food insecurity, the county ranks second behind Contra Costa County.

The survey only considered adults with incomes below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

The 2009 federal poverty level for adults was $1,805 a month in income (meaning every print journalist). The federal poverty level for a family of four was set at $3,675 a month in 2009.

More than 3.7 million California adults were food insecure in 2009, according to the survey.

Robert Rizzo wasn't among them.

According to the California Department of Social Services, 199,026 Orange County residents participated in the state's food stamp program in September, a 154 percent increase since September 2006.

Acrtually, the county teen birth rate is only 21 versus about 30 in most parts of the us. And the food security is incorrect, La, Riverside and so forth had more food insecurity according to the different districts, Poor Santa Ana had a lot less food insecurity than lots of places in Ca or Texas. The biggest problem is rent and overcrowding according to the studies.

Gee, huge problem with food insecurity in a place with millions of imported poverty, low education levels and high teenage birthrate.  Could be a correlation?  Naaah! das waciss!

Sure, but the average po' person in OC has (4) LCD big screens and an iphone 4s.  Seriously, have you ever noticed that the OC homeless are text messaging all day?  If you want know which smart phone to buy, ask a homeless person.

The survey only considered adults with incomes below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

And two of the wealthiest counties in the state are on top?  Could it have anything to do with both counties having an inordinate ammt of "adult" children still living at home with mommy and daddy well into their 20s?

Yeah, I'm sure asking that guy who hasn't had a decent meal or a shower in weeks what smart phone he recommends will go over well. :-P Have a heart...or are you a Conservative? KIDDING! ;-)

You know Fish... I am looking for the actual research to cite for you but i had heard a stat once that said if women were never given the right to vote no democrat would have won the presidency from th 20's to current date.  I heard that while Bush was in office not sure if would have been true for Barry O... And it could be a bunch of bull.  But i like to believe it.

Maybe we could talk to the wizard about a new heart. I could loan you mine but it bleeds profusely at times and is a bit battered from being worn on my sleeve. ;-)
