Blizzard Entertainment, maker of the mammoth online game "World of Warcraft," is laying off about 600 workers from its global operation. About ninety percent of the jobs being cut are not related to game development, and the "World of Warcraft" development team will not be impacted. (And hopefully, neither will BlizzCon.)

"As Blizzard and the industry have evolved we've also had to make some difficult decisions in order to address the changing needs of our company," Mike Morhaime, CEO of the Irvine-based company, said in a statement. "Knowing that, it still does not make letting go of some of our team members any easier."

Blizzard also announced that it's "still recruiting and looking to hire qualified developers for a number of open positions."
