OC Pioneers Who Were Klan Members: William A. Culp, Brea Schools Board of Trustees President

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for babyklan.jpg
Brea is infamous in the annals of Orange County for its unofficial sundown town law for much of its existence, and for just being generally nasty toward minorities, but here's an interesting fact: Brea never had segregated schools for Mexicans. Reason? There was no need for it--no Mexicans in town!

The area's most famous Mexican resident was former California Supreme Court Judge Cruz Reynoso, born in the town in 1931. As he told an oral historian years later, there were two Mexican families in Brea at the time--two! In 1930s Orange County, the height of the area's citrus industry! Mexis knew better, you know? Judge Reynoso doesn't say it in the interview I linked to, but he's told other historians that one of the reasons he got into law was because of the racism his family faced in Brea.

Which leads us to William A. Culp.

Culp was a mechanic and orchardist by trade who was also responsible for Brea's first movie theater. At some point, he was also the president of the board of trustees for the Brea public schools.

And, of course, Culp was a Klukker.

May the racists of today breed more great men ala Reynoso--and may men like Culp be rolling around in hell as their descendents marry Mexicans.

Tune in every Monday around 5 p.m. for the latest entry exposing Orange County city fathers who were Klan members!

Gustavo, can some arbitrary limit on the number of posts be instituted?  Maybe 483?

In 1924, the Klan became active in local politics in Anaheim, California. The city had been controlled by an entrenched commercial-civic elite that was mostly German American. The elite gave little support to the prohibition laws--the mayor, for example, had been a saloon keeper. The Klan was closely allied with the prohibitionist Women's Christian Temperance Union.

The Klan, led by the minister of the First Christian Church, represented a rising group of politically oriented non-German citizens who had been shut out of influence and who denounced the elite as corrupt, undemocratic and self-serving.

The Klan easily won the hotly contested local election in Anaheim in April 1924. They systematically fired Catholic city employees and replaced them with Klansmen. The new city council tried to strictly enforce prohibition, and the Klan held large rallies and initiation ceremonies over the summer.

The opposition organized, bribed a Klansman for the secret membership list (Gustavo's List of 1,200), exposed the Klansmen running in the primaries and defeated most of them. The anti-KKK's stepped up the campaign in 1925 and succeeded in a hotly contested election in voting to recall the Klansmen who had been elected in April 1924. The Klan in Anaheim quickly collapsed, its newspaper closed after losing a libel suit, and the minister who led the local Klavern moved to Kansas.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K...

The OC KKK was primarily motivated by anti-prohibitionists, anti-catholics and post WW1 anti-Germans.

Economic warfare attacks are economic attacks. Which is funny how some of these people you write about being a specific secret society ancestor in ties to a different southern society. Seem to have business that are now being affected in which Mexican Pride members business are picking up the benefit of that affect. Which again means it comes under jurisdiction of elders. So the research is being done to keep the peace between to very old ancient tribes the Americans and the Mexicans for proper peaceful resolution so that the Communist Fascist racist do not get an upper hand on the matter. If it comes out it will come out through equality and justice. Of course My vote is in on the half bread swing. As it is not fair to one to not have the other equated.

Interesting take -- an intra-white ethnic conflict. Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last.

You know nothing of this subject other than what a quick Google search can find, so please stop embarrassing yourself, homo-hating Klan apologist.

I know, I'm quite worried about the attacks on the livings of the bottom members of society that's being perpetrated by the wealthy too.

When did you invent "Communist Fascist"? I don't suppose you could favor us with a definition?

Whatever you are smoking; pass the formula to the Mexican cartels dude. By the looks of it, its some good shit.

Do you ever feel like you are the king writer of all writers in which the world sits at your feet some nights when writing and the greatest of ideas come and say ah yes great one. I am good. You good gustapo gustavo. I know I am.

You're clearly doing more than pot. How long after your last post did it take you to get off the floor from the middle of the pool of your vomit?
