Occupy OC Protesters Duped For Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's Orange County Event

Scott-Walker-1.jpg
Gov. Walker wins OC support; avoids protesters
About 50 liberal Orange County activists protested a Republican event here tonight for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, but rallied at the wrong location.

The error wasn't necessarily the activists' fault. The Walker event was scheduled for the private, Newport Beach offices of Orange County Republican Party chairman Scott Baugh. But things changed.

"No," Baugh said when asked if he or Walker saw any protesters during the 90-minute affair. "We moved the event to another location."

While the protesters chanted and waved placards outside of Baugh's empty offices, Walker enjoyed a friendly OC welcome about a mile away in the offices of Buck Johns, a longtime Republican Party donor.

"I'd say he got a warm, enthusiastic reception from about 65 people who were interested in his courageous fight in Wisconsin," Baugh told the Weekly after the event. "Gov. Walker is an inspiring, articulate man and we were happy to have him here. He reminds me of our own Jim Righeimer in Costa Mesa."

The loud groans you just heard are from union bosses in Wisconsin and California. Both Walker and Righeimer are loathed by public employee union officials for challenging union contracts as bloated. So far, Walker has been more aggressive. He's pushed to eliminate collective bargaining rights while Righeimer, a longtime union critic, has focused on privatization of government services. Union officials say both men are unfairly blaming government financial woes on public employees, a view rejected by onetime state Assemblyman Baugh because of skyrocketing government pensions.

"The government spending problem that both Scott and Jim are addressing isn't a Republican or Democratic problem," said Baugh. "It's a math problem."

Baugh also said Walker discussed his plans to defeat any future recall effort.

Righeimer, who is on vacation, said he wished he could have attended the Walker event.

"He's impressive," said Righeimer, the likely number one target for defeat by California labor interests when he faces re-election.

According to Baugh, the event raised about $20,000 for the local GOP.

Walker is in Southern California to attend the Jan. 2 Rose Bowl football game pitting Wisconsin against Oregon.

So, if all of these occupy protesters are doing such a great job, why do they plan to change their tactics in 2012?

I don't know -- why don't people always serve the same meal every night?

This is typical of Scott Walker -- schedule a private, expensive, right-winger-donors-only dinner, but hide it, don't announce the location, or run from it.  Happened in Eau Claire a few weeks ago -- they wouldn't disclose the location until the last minute, then he decided to not come at all.  Coward.

Scott: by that definition of "duped," Herman Cain "duped" the women who accused him of harassment by dropping out of the Republican Presidential race.

"Yeah, how are you girls going to protest me NOW?"

Walker scuttled into hiding and the protesters had a great rally.  Dupe me baby one more time.

Walker privatized the county courthouse when he was Milwaukee County executive and the decision was overturned later, costing taxpayers @ 4 million.  Walker's policies did nothing for Milwaukee.  He is known for political payback & politician for hire.  Pay to play - whatever you want to call it but it is dirty and highly unethical.  Act 10 is right from the ALEC handbook - read it yourself.  Walker, in passing Act 10, eliminating funding to Planned Parenthood, trying to push through mining legislation, putting caps on lawyers, ect...is/was done to pay back those who spent millions put Walker into the Governor's mansion.  They knew Walker can't think for himself and would do whatever he needed to in order to climb ranks politically.  Be very careful of Walker...he is truly a dumb man with very rich and powerful people behind him.  Walker will never do what is right unless ALEC and Grover Norquist (yes, he signed the pledge), cut him loose.  However, why would they cut loose the boy wonder who will sit like a dog and take orders?  He hopefully will be recalled from WI & let us pray they don't get this moron into Washington.  God, if we as a nation lower the bar that low...quite frankly, then this nation has gone to complete hell.

WRONG!  We weren't duped.  It doesn't matter that Governor Walker was not at the originally-scheduled location.  What really matters is that the people who were driving by and got our message didn't know that Walker wasn't somewhere in the building behind either.  They just knew that we who were there protesting Wisconsin's Governor's draconian policies, we so appalled with his actions, that we had to take the time publicly to let Orange County, Wisconsin, and Walker know; - and he does know.  Yesterday's location, more than likely, would not have been switched if his supporters and he had not been a wee bit worried.

We are all very proud of what we did.  We took a stand against real injustice  - because Collective bargaining is just what democracy is all about.

No one, and I mean no one, really expected to make any difference against the misguided politics of Walker, Baugh, and Righeimer. The thousands of honking cars , thumbs ups, and and support from all the people driving by in "Rich Red" Newport Beach, that was worth it all.Moxley, you should do a piece on "Government Welfare criminal" ,Buck Johns, and his Victorville "Wasted" treatment plant, bankrupting that city. Now thats a story.

I live in Wisconsin. I think the state bird should be changed to reflect the state workers and teachers. The loon would be quite appropriate. They are underwater quite often, have protections most birds don't, and sound like they are nuts when ever they squawk.  In reality, I have not seen 1 school closed, 1 teacher fired, or one state worker placed on welfare. But I have seen my taxes go down, my property taxes didn't go up for the first time in 15 years. But the Recall dingbats will cost each county a lot of money. I've seen estimates of $200,000.00 for one county alone. Why? Because the dingbats didn't want to contribute to their pensions or healthcare. The private sector is getting killed by government mandates and regulations, while the government public servants create those mandates and regulations to prove their jobs are necessary.   They pick our wallets clean and are now asking for your 401k's to manage them like they have Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. They are broke, there is no money, they are borrowing it. And these idiots and their democrat buddies are begging to borrow more to pay the interest. This week Obama asked for another $1.6 trillion to pay the bills. Is this not a bit more important than listening to a bunch of "give me everything I want" jerks cry, because they can't strong arm the people they are supposed to be working for?   These protestors seek attention. They got it. They wanted to disrupt an event, and didn't succeed. Kudos to the event holders. I was told when I was younger,"Sometimes it takes a bigger man to walk away from a fight, than to stand there and get into one." Why was it necessary for the event holders to stay where the protestors would be? If the dorks who think the Governor was a coward by not having the event so the protestors could make fools out of themselves, then what about the lame dummycrat state Senators who ran away to Illinois to hideout and not do their job. My jerk senator Joke or Jag-off or, oh yes, Jauch, was caught on film by the Illinois Tea Party, hiding and running like the coward he was. Today he is trying to stop a mine that would greatly benefit his district with thousands of needed jobs in the private sector. A majority want it and yet he gets his pockets filled by the same clowns who have destroyed so many jobs.   So don't tell me who the mafia in Wisconsin is. I already know. They are the clowns who ran to keep other elected officials from doing what they were elected to do. They are the ones who instead of teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic, stand in front of students whining about a governor who actually saved their jobs. They are the state workers who get paid holidays, benefits and pensions that the private sector can't even imagine. And they are the idiots who are useful as protestors and who expect government to be the answer to their woes, when in reality the answer lies ahead of them when they stand in front of a mirror.I STAND WITH WALKER! And I live in Rice Lake, WI.

the best that Scott Walker can do even though he has been outspending his recall organizer opponents four to one in the contest so far: At the outset of Wisconsin’s historic recall fight, GOP Gov. Scott Walker and his allies are outspending the other side on television by a margin of roughly 4-to-1, an advantage he’s expected to maintain in the weeks ahead. The governor has already aired more than $1 million in broadcast ads since he hit the airwaves in mid-November, according to the ad-tracking firm Kantar Media CMAG.Ha ha, and that’s been working so well that organizers already have 507,000 of the 540,000 signatures needed to trigger the recall election in just half the allotted time period.

Cynthia
Cynthia

Yep and they better get more to cover people that signed multiple times, signed for their parents, names from the dead, out of State relatives, underage signatures, Micky Mouse, Hitler, etc. I'm sure the majority of WI is not 507,000..... What's taking so long if WI is a blue State? The recall will fail. WI reforms are working. Time to put your union tail between your legs and exit the stage.

BTW, unions being stingy with their funding or is it that obama does not want his funding for 2012 touched?

The bummer is that Scott Walker missed a good laugh.

Seriously? Have any of your "reporters" or should I say PR yes men ever going to cop to the truth about Walker? That living in Wisconsin right now is like living with the mafia in charge. Can you ever talk about all the laws he violated, the three restraining orders he ignored, the violation of open meeting laws, the evidence of election tampering we found at the Supreme Court recount that was ignored just in time to get Prosser illegally onto the bench so he could overturn the ruling? Can we talk about the $500,000 it cost us to shoulder the Republican decision to commit fraud by running "fake dems," or the voter suppression bill now being challenged in court (overturned in SC already)...how about the lies and hypocrisy exhibited day after day here....the violence being perpetrated by Pro Walker thugs threatening to commit felonies by burning recall petitions, now the big lie that Walker chose to expand the cap on medicaire when in reality he was ordered to because he was breaking the law, or how about the John Doe investigation going on, the arrest of his campaign contributors, on and on the illegalities go. But I understand, those of you masquerading as republicans who are really Fascists have a different worldview, one that will kill us all of you and the likes of Walker are left in charge. I do understand, though, that fascism sees someone who does the right thing for the good of all as weak, and someone like Walker, who has no trouble lying and committing crimes, as someone strong in character because they aren't bothered by pesky things like breaking the law, lying, cheating, stealing and using the propaganda echo chamber to perpetrate more fraud. There is a reason we are recalling him and once we get him out, we will come after anyone else who traitorously threatens the constitution. And of course he ran. He is a coward.

Barbara - not sure where you live, but I live in Wisconsin.Take everything you said about living with Gov. Walker in charge and apply that to the previous administration, under 'Diamond Jim' Doyle. As far as the $500,000 'burden' to run 'fake Dems', what about the multi-million $ that the current recall will cost the state? What about the $1billion in taxes passed in a midnight session under Jim Doyle?

Pro-Walker thugs?  I don't think so.What about the female republican assemblywoman who was threatened by a male assemblyman?  And while the woman was pregnant?  Or have you not seen this story, which took place in (February?) of 2011:

Barbara, you must be $h!77ing me.  None of what you have posted here is true.  Not a word of it.  Line by line:  Mafia?  How so?  I don't see anyone getting "whacked" or even intimidated by the administration.  Show me proof.

Election tampering?  WTF did you get that?  That only exists in the hate-addled minds of the blinded protesters who have lost their ability to help themselves to my wallet.  Again...proof?

There is no "fraud" in  running "fake democrats".  No one tried to claim the were a Democrat.  In fact, those who  ran were very clear about being Republicans running to force a primary.  And what about the millions you are costing us with this ridiculous recall.  And the very idea that asking for identification to vote is "voter suppression" is absurd.  It only supresses fraudulent votes.  It was not "overturned" in SC, but rather the Obama DOJ claimed it was illegal.  Obama will need those fraudulent votes to win this year.  The law will be upheld by the courts.  Walker broke no Medicare laws.  In fact, it is the Feds that are unconstitutionally meddling in a state issue.

Facists...I have to laugh.  The Left is so completely unhinged.  Walker has placed the power back in the hands of the taxpayer, rather than the public-sector unions.  You can no longer collude with school boards and local governments to rape the taxpayer.

You come after us, that is for certain.  But there is no treason here.  None of your Constitutional Rights are violated.  There is no "Right" to collective bargaining.  It is a privilege given to you by the Wisconsin State Legislature.  You abused it.  It has been taken away and like a petulant child who doesn't get his way, you are having a tantrum.

The cowards are those like you who are tough in numbers, but unwilling to confront us one-on-one.  You bravely march in drum circles around the Capital and holler "shame, shame" in order to disrupt the legitimate workings of government.  YOU are the liars, cheaters and stealers.  All you have posted here is a lie.  You cheat the taxpayer by taking more money for lousy results.  You wish to steal more elections through voter fraud.  You are a taker.

You will likely take umbrage to my (relative) anonymity.  I do so to protect my family.  The thugs you have sent to the homes of Wisconsin Republicans have shown me the need to take such measures.  Personally, I would welcome them to show the world their thuggish behavior.  I would rather not subject my wife and neighbors to it.

"Both Walker and Righeimer are loathed by public employee union officials for challenging union contracts as bloated."

You are doing your readers a real disservice as a "journalist" if you think this is what caused the protests against Scott Walker.  In actuality, the state unions and the Democratic Senators immediately agreed to the financial concessions requested by Walker in February.  The objections are to Walker's policies which effectively eliminate public employees rights to collectively bargain.

Next time, try to actually read up on the issues before making such grand pronouncements, ok?

Alan Ray
Alan Ray

You are absolutely wrong!.  Which unions agreed to financial concessions?  The Teacher's Union's didn't!  Collective bargaining PRIVILEGES had to be removed as any agreements that could have been made would only last for the contract period. Your democratic senators fled the state illegally when they didn't get their way creating chaos, damage to the capitol by protestors and holding hostage the government of our state.By giving the rights back to local communities, they now are no longer beholden to the Union thugs when they demand more when there is nothing more to give from taxpayers. The WEA trust milked Wisconsin taxpayers out of hundreds of millions of dollars over the years...something that became evident and exposed this year. The reality is that public union members are now being held accountable for their own actions without the protection of the union when mediocracy is evident.  They have to pay their fair share in pension and healthcare costs...and they now have a hand in their own personal success and income.

The disbanding( eventually) of public unions is one of the best things that has happened to this state in many years.

wisconsin factcheck

http://www.jsonline.com/news/s...Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel (hardly a liberal rag) from February 18, 2001:"Leaders of the state's biggest public worker unions said they would give in to the governor's demand for concessions on workers' benefits if Walker would give up his bid to repeal nearly all public union bargaining rights..."See also, the comments from union leaders Marty Beil and Mary Bell agreeing to those financial concessions in that article.Or, this  Milwaukee Business Times article from 2/18/2011:http://www.biztimes.com/daily/... Jon Erpenbach: "'I have been informed that all state and local public employees – including teachers - have agreed to the financial aspects of GovernorWalker's request.'"The protests are - and were - about Gov. Walker unannounced - as in he ran for Governor for 18 month without uttering a word about it - plan to gut collective bargaining for public employees.Simple facts. Try to keep up.

wisconsin factcheck
wisconsin factcheck

Well, that's how bargaining works. Instead, Scott Walker, who trusts the Government for nothing else, would rather issue decrees about the working conditions for public workers.

Alan Ray
Alan Ray

Ahhh...Yes, they agree to giving in concessions AFTER they knew that Walker was going to end collective bargaining.  How convenient not to make this point in your first post.

Of course the unions are going to make concessions if they know that their existence is threatened.

Living Freed
Living Freed

I agree with you Alan Ray except for the last statement.I don't think the public unions should be disbanded (decertified).  By keeping them around, the teachers and public workers can compare life WITH the union and life WITHOUT the union - freedom of choice.Of course, any good teachers or public workers will soon see how their lazier co-workers will now be reviewed for their performance and perhaps fired when their mediocrity is exposed.  There was at least one school district in WI that paid their teachers an end of year bonus.  Why?  Not because they were still under a contract unaffected by Act 10 - to the contrary!Act 10 - the budget repair bill - saved the district so much money, they had a surplus, and this was their way to thank their teachers for 'sharing the burden'.  That's the kind of 'equal sharing' I can get behind.  Don't pay the teacher more because their contract demands it.  Pay them more because they actually earned it!

You know, the Republicans are actually being idiots here. Government employee unions are disproportionately white, as are 'prevailing wage' jobs. But white people are the core Republican constituency. So in attacking public sector unions, they Republicans are bitting their own ass. A better strategy would be to go to the unions and say, hey, we are in a fix and we need to re-negotiate  contacts.

Cynthia
Cynthia

Obviously you know nothing about what is going on in WI. Gov. Walker tried that for 8 years.... and you obviously also know nothing about unions.... This tantrum with the unions was simply because they wanted FORCED membership and auto-payed dues!!

mitch young
mitch young

You're right, I don't know much about WI. I do think that in California, Whitman and Fiorina (no workers' favorite already) did make a mistake by demonizing unions.

I know a lot of working class whites, and a lot of the guys have wives who are nurses or teachers or whatnot, and in unions. So the Repubs lose the couple, or they just don't vote.

On the other hand, by promoting 'outsourcing', the Repubs just encourage more illegal immigration (that's who contractors hire for things like groundskeeping). And those illegals' kids will eventually be voting Democrat.
