Time to Occupy Mike Harrah?

​Cranes and heavy machinery are finally moving at the massive lot on the corner of Broadway and 10th Street in SanTana owned by Mike Harrah, the mega-developer intent on building on that site a 37-story Freudian eyesore called One Broadway Plaza--never mind it's right next to a high school and across the street from an elementary school. We've long covered his nearly decade-long subversion of democracy to have it built, his ownership of the SanTana City Council, and it seems like Harrah's will is finally being done.

Which raises the question: is it time to Occupy Mike Harrah?

That's the suggestion left at another of his SanTana properties: the Santora Building, one he had no problems defacing earlier this year as long as it suited his needs. I'm sure the tag below is already gone...

...but the suggestion is fascinating for those activists enraged with Harrah and his clowncil puppets. Chain yourselves to the cranes like Laguna Beach activists did to save their beloved hills during the 1990s, santaneros!

It is ridiculous to build an office building ofthat size in that area of Santa Ana. As it is, I drive by that corner twice aday, to and from my job at a law firm, and the traffic on Broadway is alreadyhorribly backed up during rush hour.  Anyone that thinks this is a good idea shoulddrive by at about 5 pm on any given weekday before voicing their opinion.

to those who do live in the immediate area (and i am one of those people) this is going to be horrible. shame on Santa Ana for allowing this to happen without the 50%...there's a HUGE vacancy problem in the area already!

personally, i think his/Harrah's ego is going to be his downfall...this will sink him. sucks b/c we are going to be left with a big nasty building left with his signature "decor" ala upscale TGIF/Claim Jumper-great! :(

 Not only does my company own a building in the area I may be moving back to that location from my LA office... Spent a couple years at that Santa Ana location I miss the mexican food.

Yes, "Santanero's" Impede in the progression of your neighborhood and halt a project that will provide jobs for your Hermanos y Hermanas.... It is not in your best interest to allow a building that will attract tenants who offer jobs that pay a living wage.  DO NOT prepare a resume and DO NOT fill out any applications... Continue to wait for the great entitlement payout that your false Idol Lorretta Sanchita has promised you... The checks in the mail, she promised!

Dude wants to build a building... City council told him to get it 50% occupied before breaking ground, he couldn't do it so through subversive tactics and legal wrangling and a ruling by the 4th district appellate court he's getting it done with out fulfilling the 50% quota he agreed to... Isn't that about right? Like I said a couple weeks ago he just took a page from the liberal playbook... and now all I hear is sour uvas!I don't hear you upset that the court overturned prop 187 or the ban on gay marriage.  Only because some wealthy (probably republican) whitey wants to build a building in Santa Ana.  FURTHERMORE you describe the location as a neighborhood (as if no one has google earth on their computers.)  It would be sandwiched by two already existing buildings are there some older houses still sprinkled in there? yeah but the real neighbor hood is 2-3 blocks away. Frankly I don't Care if it gets built or not.  And as you can see over on your Armenian story today I aint even gonna touch that one!

If it was a 15-story building, no one would have a problem. 37 stories? A problem. Unchecked progress is not always apt!

But let me ask you It will be across the street from an already existing 10+ story building?   Why the outrage over this particular one? I mean other than the perceived sweetheart deal the guy is getting? Currently there is a big dirt lot with a fence around it making the city zero money... Why not put a tax revenue generating facility there?  I mean on the real, all joking and smart ass comments aside. Perhaps 37 stories is a little much for that location ,  I will concede that, but you cant stop progress.
