UPDATE, DEC. 28, 11:08 A.M.: The Orange County District Attorney's office declined to file charges against Sean Brown and his girlfriend Amy Johnson, according to MSNBC.

ORIGINAL POST, DEC. 27, 12:59 P.M.: In the wake of the brutal murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, her sister Denise Brown of Dana Point famously founded a foundation to combat domestic violence.

But, with today's arrest of Denise Brown's son Sean Brown on felony corporal injury on a spouse, it seems that spousal rage was not confined to O.J. Simpson's side of the family.

Of course, like O.J., one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. OK, scratch that: only in the case of O.J. one is presumed guilty even after being proven not guilty. That's not the point. The point is, around 2:30 in the morning, Santa Ana Police received a call about a domestic dispute in an apartment in the 100 block of Macarthur Boulevard.

Officers arrived to find a couple nursing superficial wounds to one another. Because it was presumed--there we go presuming again--that each had created the other's injuries, both were jailed.

Neither 25-year-old Brown nor his girlfriend, Amy Johnson, 22, required hospitalization, Santa Ana Police noted. Each was held in lieu of $50,000 bail in Orange County Jail.

Denise Brown founded the Nicole Brown Simpson Foundation after the 1994 death of her sister.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Orange County District Attorney officially declined to file criminal chargesagainst Sean Brown today stemming from his arrest last week on a charge of domesticviolence.

Mr. Brown’s attorney, Shepard Kopp, commended the OCDA for the decision:

“This was the right call on an unfortunate situation in which Sean not onlycommitted no crime but in fact did everything he was supposed to do.Because of his unique personal history, Sean knows better than most peoplehow wrong domestic violence is, and he would never engage in suchbehavior. In this case, Sean had an argument with his girlfriend AmyJohnson, but never assaulted her. During the argument Sean did nothingmore than protect his own physical well-being, as anyone else would. Infact, Sean himself called the police to get help in calming the situation –which is hardly the action of a man who has committed a crime.

The media reports on this incident have suggested that Sean was guilty of somecriminal wrongdoing, or that he was fortunate to not be charged with any crimes, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. We trust that responsiblemedia organizations will take steps to correct the damage done to Sean’sreputation.”
