Schou: Il chingón di tutti chingones
Some personnel moves for ustedes:

Nick Schou--defender of the wrongfully convicted and medicinal marijuana advocates, scourge of baton-happy cops and Huntington Beach politicians, chronicler of the Hippie Mafia and martyred reporters--is now the OC Weekly managing editor, effective, like, right now.

He'll be replacing me, but continue to write occasionally on his beloved beats. Nick's first item of responsibility: find his replacement, someone with the same investigative chops and drive as him (but a much-better knowledge of American football). Yes, Virginia: we're hiring, even in this godforsaken economy, because we believe in great local journalism.

Interested? Email me at garellano at ocweekly dot com and I'll give you further instructions on how to apply.

That's the good news. The bad news: Vickie Chang, who started with us as an intern, moved up to calendar editor, was a staff writer until getting laid off, got back in as clubs editor before becoming our awesome web editor, is leaving for the riches of PR. Her final day is Jan. 5, and we'll miss her terribly. But, yes, Virginia: we will replace her as well. Can you get us a kajillion blog hits every day and be equally versed in hard news, culture, and food? Then this position is yours. Email me at garellano at ocweekly dot com and I'll give you further instructions on how to apply.

Congrats, Nick! And vaya con Dios, Vickie...:

One good thing about this publication is that is does self-report on personnel moves. The LA Times, for example, a few years ago cut their libertarian web-savvy guys without so much as an acknowledgment of how their contribution in getting that paper up to speed on the 'web' thing.

It is strange that Chasen Marshall left with no word, however. I considered him the only 'reporter' doing something that was semi-unique to OC. The rest of you guys could be in Seattle, Phenix, NYC, LA and still be doing the same thing.

Just another inside job. Why on earth do you--and other employers--advertise nationally to fill jobs when you have no intention of going outside? It is a total and complete waste of time for those of us who make the considerable effort to put together a good application only to learn, once again, that the job goes internally.Do us all a favor and DON'T ADVERTISE. Just move people up or on or over or whatever. It is especially upsetting to those of us who get preliminary interviews and even reference checks.Your publication blows, and you have definitely lost a reader for good.

I have a Sheriff's card that says I'm an honest to goodness "Cub Reporter"! Maybe I can Apply?

My resume is thin (unlike me), but my wife has a real job at the LATIMES, which means I must be qualified.

Before you ask, all those rumors about me prank calling blog posters, lighting bags of dog shit on porches and sending packages anonmously to people are just folks jealous of me. I was just being my normal, silly, fourteen year old self (nevermind I am in my FIFTIES).

So, If you want someone to cover politics, I'm your man. I have a super secret source who works closely with Bill Campbell and Curt Pringle. He tell's me what to write and I do. So you'll have lot's of opinionaten non-factual gossip, kinda like I do at my current job, a blog.......err I mean news outlet.......Ah heck, I don't know what we are. Good thing Dawn has insurance!

Bullied Chinito: Nah, no dumb-ass conspiracies like the ones you believe this time. Vickie is a testament to how awesome Asians are; you, a disgrace like that racist pendejo who write for AsianWeek some years back—betcha he's your cousin haha.

Hey "Mitch," it's a good thing that you abbreviated NYC, OC and LA because I doubt you could correctly spell the names. Phenix? Really? Advice: Lower the aim of your prominent nose 45 degrees so that you can see the keyboard.
