Suicide by train?

That's the assumption of the Orange Police Department when it comes to the woman who was struck and killed by a Metrolink train this morning.

The operator of the southbound Inland Empire/Orange County line train saw the woman walking toward it at Orange Olive Road just north of Heim Avenue just before impact at 6:23 a.m., according to police.

Investigators believe she intended to die. Her identity had not yet been released.

The light holiday schedule meant only about 175 passengers were aboard the train at the time. They were taken by bus to the Orange station as the investigation closed the tracks for hours. Four other trains and hundreds of other commuters had to deal with the delay, according to Metrolink.
