Gustavo on PBS, Arguing Why Mexicans Will Never Vote Republican!

Newt-Gingrich.jpg
Gingrich: Deluded about Mexis
Ain't it hilarious how the lamestream media is all surprised how that serial adulterer Newt Gingrich is all Aztlanista now? Anyone who follows politics knows Newt has been trying to get Mexis to go GOP for well over a year now, involving himself with similar-minded think tanks. And ain't it hilarious how Gingrich (and the Lincoln Club, for that matter) actually thinks they can be successful?

Of course it'll never happen--not just because of their hair-brained staggered amnesties, but because the rest of the Republican Party can't stop railing about wabs. That's what I've been arguing for years, and I'll get to propagandize on a national level tonight, on PBS's Need to Know program. You can wait until tonight at 8:30 p.m., on PBS SoCal Channel 50, or view it after the jump!
Here's the video. Excuse the panza...

To say that Mexicans will never vote GOP because of a single issue (immigration) is wildy over-generalized. Given that many immigrant Latinos are devout Catholics, they often connect very profoundly with Republicans on issues like abortion and gay marriage.

But I'm sure they voted for Mario Hernandez mayor of San Fregando who just let drop that he's tagging chula council member Maribel de la Torre.  You see, like mayor Tony Villar, once a caballero gets elected, its time to swing the pito un poco.  Adios esposa, bienvenidos chifladas.

Oh, and he also filed for corporate and personal BK and lost his bizniss.  He did all this as his WIFE was sitting in the front row.

Que orgullo!  But we could never vote repuke, jamas!   We got standards ese!

If your tacit support for politicians like Loretta Sanchez is your idea of getting even, have you considered the possibility that you've assimilated too much?

Gustavo and many others are perplexed that we don't welcome unlimited illegal immigration from his country.  He is quick to cite racism as the cause of this attitude.  In reality, the opposition to massive uncontrolled immigration from mexico is well founded.  The reasons are many but the one I will dwell on is the lack of emphasis on education amongst the immigrant community.  Yesterdays' NY times did an exhaustive article detailing the near complete failure of mexicans in NYC to educate themselves.  Here is a brief excerpt:

---

About 41 percent of all Mexicans between ages 16 and 19 in the city have dropped out of school, according to census data.

No other major immigrant group has a dropout rate higher than 20 percent, and the overall rate for the city is less than 9 percent, the statistics show.

This crisis endures at the college level. Among Mexican immigrants 19 to 23 who do not have a college degree, only 6 percent are enrolled. That is a fraction of the rates among other major immigrant groups and the native-born population.

----

Given that the population of mexicans is exploding and they are not interested in going to school, how can their be any hope for them achieving anything but being a perpetual underclass?  Importation of poverty will be the end of our nation.

Gingrich is NOT DELUDED IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. He is connected to so many globalist organizations and think tanks that its laughable people don't get him. He's nothing but the typical power player, supporting his number one cause, Newt Gingrich. Americans are sick and tired of creeps like him occupying D.C. He would pander to anyone for any reason to gain polticial power. He is an empty suit.

I am confident that you will add to the "hot air" coming from the left leaning PBS Radio group.  Chances are when the conservatives get control next year, PBS funding with tax dollars will be a thing of the past.  While you may be Mexican, Gustavo, I would suggest that you are no better than the RINO's passing themselves off as conservatives.  Guess that makes you a MINO.  As you already know, most Mexican-Americans are social conservatives and have been alienated by the Republican Party's failure to address the Immigration issue in an acceptable manner.  Say what you want about Newt Gingrich, he has put an outline for a big picture on the table for discussion.  That is better than anyone else has done in the past.  Will his proposal alienate the far right conservatives, probably so?  However, given a choice of Mr Flip Flop (Romney) or Newt, perhaps they will take the high road and do the right thing.  Time wiill tell.  One way or the other, the Pied Piper of Chicago is going down in 2012 and there isn't diddly squat you liberals can do about it, except whine and complain.

Hmm...good to see you on TV....but it saddens me that any mexican might consider being a republican even if the yoke of racist rhetoric is removed. One of the reasons Mexico has been torn apart these 500 years is the pitting of conservative and liberal values against each other...conservative and liberal are often 1 subject issues in Mexico, like abortion or catholicism. People who have abundant issues in common will often tear each other's heads off for one idea. Every revolution was predicated on how indigenas and mestizos were disenfranchised in a land that was essentially their birthright, only to be torn apart by some small but highly cherished piece of adopted European-ness. Then, the coyotes and zopilotes waiting in the margins (where they were put by defeat) took advantage of those few sympathetic brown people to put down the rest of the country. Just like the Native Americans of the USA are sorry for having helped the Pilgrims, you'd think Mexicans would learn they are always gonna have to pay back the gabachos with nalgitas. We need to stop allowing such manipulations, only then can we be united and truly our own country.

Well, we are not removed from the farms in California. Last I checked we are still among the top food producers. But regardless, you are right, illegal immigrants fill the low paying jobs that Americans will not or cannot do.

One, they are the menial jobs that your average American will not do and second, the pay is well below the living wage now that nobody can afford to work some of these jobs unless they had government assistance or communal housing.

This comes from experience from managing restaurants. I could not find Americans to do these jobs at this pay. I increase the pay, I go out of business or if  I hire Americans that will work at minimum wage, they were usually addicted to drugs or had other psychological disturbances.

The easiest solution was migrant workers. They were happy to have the job, fit, smart, worked hard, didn't complain and came from an inexhaustible labor pool. This is the reality folks, like it or not and Politicians left and right know this and it why you will never see it change. Cheap migrant workers drive capitalist economys all over the world. They always have, and always will, we might have to ante up to help with their health care, but in return they keep the economy stable to allow us educated folks to have the high paying jobs most of us enjoy.

Yes, many Latinos vote republican (especially Cuban Nationals/descendents). I have many Latino friends who served in the military, are very conservative, very religious, etc. Ya, they don't sign on for 100% of the R stuff, but they are philosophically opposed to more of the D platform than R platform. However, Gustavo might be correct that a "Majority" of the Latino Vote will never go R in a National Election. 60-40 seems to be the consistent split these days, I think G is saying we won't see "that" change, not that millions of Latinos don't vote R.

Or it could be that Mexico has been torn apart these 500 years because every inspired "leader" of that last 500 years has been some self-serving jagoff who'd rather sell his own people than support them and their needs.

"Cheap migrant workers drive capitalist economys all over the world. They always have, and always will, we might have to ante up to help with their health care, but in return they keep the economy stable to allow us educated folks to have the high paying jobs most of us enjoy."

First of all, wages have been stagnant for twenty years. Second, there are economies that do just fine without migrant workers, aka Japan, Iceland. Third, we 'ante up' far more than we get in return for cheap labor -- that is why the state is broke. Forth, I go to In-n-Out, I see Americans working 'jobs Americans won't do'? How can In-n-Out do it but you can't? In fact, go to most parts of the country and the line cooks etc. will be Americans. It is only immigrant saturated areas where Mexicans dominate the kitchens.

"the pay is well below the living wage "Absolute key point. Fact is Americans do do this sort of work, you pick strawberry fields and apple orchards abound. However, as a profession/career/long term thing, it wouldn't even pay the rent. In France the vineyards actually provide dormitory style housing and decent meals for their migrant workers. To be fair, while a lot of natives work the harveest, there are a lot of those are illegals, or at least people who shouldn't be working while in France. But many of these are  are backpackers just passing through, and an even larger number are people who *go home*  to Morocco or where-ever after the harvest.

Personally, I'd like to get some leggy blonde 'guest workers' -- the Ukraine is actually poorer per capita than Mexico, let's get some of them working here.

So what you are saying in essence and supporting as well is socialism. Because you just stated that your whole business depends on the taxpayers that support the people YOU CAN'T. In view of that, I hope your prices are low, but I bet there not. The only peoplle that benefit from illegal labor are the owners of businesses. Americans lose in every way imaginable..

It's really a function of NAFTA, Globalization and our Current Economic System that has created the disparity in "Classes' and has forced Inflation in the US on Living Standards.

You've got the Greatest Disparity between "rich" and "poor" in the entire of History of the United States...this moment.

Globalization and the Walmartization of America (and really the World) has created a rather interesting set of circumstances.

Inflation in the US on Rent, Housing, Health Care, Gas, Food (due to fuel costs), Education, etc. Big expenses for the average American.

We have seen Deflation and Lower Costs for stuff like Clothing, Trinkets, Electronics, etc.

Small Farming in Mexico got wiped out by NAFTA. So, for the average worker in Mexico, it's work at a Slave Wage factory for a Big Multinational Corporation (if you're luck enough to get a job) or work for the Drug Cartels. Morton's Fork.

Many choose Option 3 and cross the Border to take one of the many jobs available as Chris describes above.

Small Biz can't afford to pay decent wages, thanks to Wal-Mart. Can't compete against "the Everyday Low Price Leader!". Wal-Mart keeps wages low, keep prices on stuff low, keeps jobs and factories in China very high.

Fact: Wal-Mart is China's 6th Largest Trading Partner in the World...surpassing the vast Majority of Nations on the Planet.

Globalization, Fractional Reserve Banking and Fiat Money Systems combined with an ignorant and apathetic Populace and hugely effective Lobbying effort by the Big Multi-Nationals has led to a set of very difficult circumstances. High Unemployment for the Average American is here to stay until the incentive changes from encouraging the off-shoring of Jobs, Factories and taxation (Google makes Billions, while paying a mere 2.4% effective US Tax rate, GE makes Billions and currently receives a Tax Rebate, etc. These Big Mult-Nationals employ expensive Tax Attorneys and do the "Double Irish" and "Dutch Sandwich" tax evasion strategies...as do many others).

A large portion of the US Population is now dependent on Government. Food Stamps are now at an all-time high in the History of our Nation with approximately 1 in 7 currently receiving the assistance (and that number is rapidly climbing).

Nearly 1 in 5 Americans now receive Government Assistance (and those numbers are skyrocketing).

The European Socialism Experiment is exploding and imploding before our eyes.

The Corporate Socialism/US Socialism Experiment in the US is in a Slow Motion Train Wreck.

Bond Markets are indicating a Breakup of the Euro (extremely dicey right now..but I believe the FED and Powers that Be will ride to the rescue soon, as a Break Up of the Euro is too risky and makes Lehman Brother's look like a picnic).

Meanwhile, we have approximately $200 Trillion in unfunded Liabilities according to Economist Kotlikoff...or go with Bond Guru Bill Gross's more conservative estimate of $66 Trillion...either way, it's insurmountable.

We can't even agree on reducing the level of increase to the Budget, let alone making any true and real cuts.

Solutions:

De-Globalize. Put Mexico under new Management. Send in the US Military to clear out the Drug Cartels. Set up a Coalition Government. Hit the reset Button down there. Pass a Right to Bear Arms for the Law Abiding Mexican Citizen.

Legalize and regulate and tax Narcotics. Have the Pharmaceutical Industry take over the production and distribution. Tax it, monitor it. There will always be those who use. Much like Prohibition was a disaster, our "War on Drugs" has been a monumental failure.

End NAFTA. Break up the GIANT Multi-National Farming/Food Conglomerates and Seed Companies, etc. This will return Peasant Farming and Small Farming Industries.

Tariff Chinese Imports today. They Peg their Currency to the US Dollar which keeps their goods artificially low in the marketplace. They cheat the System...so Tariff and fix it via Tax Policy.

Break up Big Multi-National Monopolies like Wal-Mart. They are a Cancer to the Working Class and Middle Class in America. They are Net Job Killers and Wage Killers, no matter how low their everyday prices are. Look at a Chart that tracks the Emergence of Wal-Mart as the Richest and Largest Corporation in the World...it nearly matches the Emergence of China and the Decline of the US and its Middle Class. There is a Correlation.

Protect and help Small Business, Fair Competition, Small Farming etc.

Reform the Tax Code. Close the Big Corp Tax Loopholes and the loopholes for the truly Rich.

Have a Consumption Tax that brings the pimps, hookers and off-grid enterprises to the table.

Despite the Dreams of extreme Libertarians, we need some Government, we need a Military, we need some responsible and humane Safety Nets. Those cost money and require Revenue to fund. We can't live off the Credit Card forever.

Get Commodities like Oil, Gas and Food OFF the Trading Exchanges. Speculators rule these Markets and it effects the Average Person greatly.

Tax Wall Street, in fact, we should shut down that Casino or greatly regulate it.

Reform our Banking System. Go to a Credit Union Business Model and break up all the "Too Big to Fail" Semi-Private (Private when they make a profit) Semi-Public (Public when they have losses and need a bailout) Banks. Elisabeth Warren has some outstanding ideas...

We've got to go back to Basics. Back to what our Founding Fathers intended...a Level Playing Field for the Average Citizen and a Fair Market. Our current so-called "Free Market" Construct is not "Free" and it's killing us.

Immigration will work itself out if we improve conditions in Mexico, restore Rule of Law down there and if we embrace a Fair Market System (which is VASTLY DIFFERENT than Socialism and Communism...those are failed Systems).

Immigration Reforms will also help by getting Illegals Legal, while recognizing Rule of Law and Sovereign Borders (which is essential in National Sovereignty).

Or, if we don't want a Sovereign Border with Mexico, then we should consider Annexing them...which might not be a bad idea. Mexico has vast Natural Resources, a lot of good people who are Religiously and Socially very simpatico with most Americans.

Rant over. Just some thoughts and opines.

Actually, I think Gustavo has the perfect "investigative report" that would rock the OC religious community (with reach around the US and World for that matter). There is lots of reach to other big SoCal names, smuggling cash, adulteries, molestations, cover-ups, IRS violations, child abuse, $13 million going to family, etc etc etc.

Bill T.
Bill T.

The fact that this story gets Gustavo's message out is actually beside the point. I hear plenty of people from the other side of the aisle interviewed (politely) also. Either side complaining about PBS favoring points of view opposing theirs are cherry picking. 100% balanced? That's an ideal that would be impossible to achieve but they do OK.

I trace my family in the country to a German immigrant in 1858, I had a great-great-great-great grandmother that died in the SLO area in 1828 (when there were damn few/no women from the states on the coast, what was with that???), I have Choctaw heritage on my father's side (ever hear of the "Trail of Tears"?), California natives on my mother's, I qualify as a person with long heritage and I disagree with the idea that by advocating for justice for immigrants my heritage is denigrated. It's not a zero-sum game, all gain when justice is served.

mitch young
mitch young

Bill T, let's look at who gets interviewed for this story -- two people who I am willing to bet $50 bucks have exactly zero grandparents who were born in the US between them. Maybe not even any parents born in the US between them. Where is the viewpoint of those of us who have a long history -- familial history -- in this country? Why do only recent immigrants and their immediate relatives get a say in this debate?

Here's another Rant for you Dweezle, you'll really enjoy this one I'm sure :-)

"Free Market" w/o rules is like Grace w/o Law...akin to Antinomianism to use a Religious Metaphor. "Sin all you want, Grace covers all"...i.e. Goldman Sachs, Wall Street, Big Corps, Politicians etc.‎"Fair Market" taken to the extreme (Socialism/Communism) is akin to Universal Salvation/Universal Reconciliation...to use another Religious Metaphor. "Why bother trying? We all end up in the same place anyways..."A "Free Market/Fair Market" is what I believe our Founding Fathers intended and is what is articulated in our Constitution. It is "Free Market" with Government as Referee and Arbiter to make sure the Playing Field remains Level. Our Current System is neither "Free" nor "Fair". Egalitarianism is a very Christian Ideal...in fact, Jesus Christ turned the Society of His day on its ear by espousing Truth and Egalitarian Principles.Egalitarianism as interpreted and applied by Communism and Socialism is Fatally Flawed and actually creates as much or more corruption and inequality than its counter-part of unfettered so-called "Free Markets".The Balance is "Free Markets" with proper Rules and Regs in place and Rule of Law that is meted out Justly. Equal Scales Principle. Very much Christian.
